Was curious on everyone's fish feeder as mine has died and was looking to get a new one and thought i would ask everyone opinion on their feeder. I was using the aquachef fish feeder for the last couple of years but accidentally knock it in the water and it lasted a month.

Apex Auto fish feeder. I have 2. They work great. If you have an apex I think it's the way to go. If not the Ehiem that Dave suggested would be my choice also.

I'm with Dave in the Ehiem. I hand feed mostly frozen. I enjoy feeding and watching everybody in the tank eat, I think it's the best way to keep tabs on overall tank health. If we take a trip I have some of the Ehiems that I use and have always had good luck with them.

I went with the eheim very easy to use and can dump the food out. Very pleased Sofar.

I've used the same Eheim Everyday feeder, however twice now, TWICE, I've had one fully dump all food into the tank.

First one lasted about 2.5 years, batteries were actually pretty fresh. It originally was using it just for when traveling, then liked the consistency that it provided my fish for time and quantity of food. Then, one day, it just dumped everything into the tank. I went downstairs tank is in our finished basement) like I do every day after work to check on them and feed them the 'rest' of the food that I like to feed (frozen, etc) and the tank was massively cloudy, nothing was happy in the tank, and the feeder was just spinning and spinning. Made for a very busy evening and few days to get things back to normal. Just glad that it didn't happen when I was gone. At most it was24 hours, which was long enough.

Contacted Eheim, and they apologized and sent me a replacement for free (of course). I was confident that it was a fluke. I used the 2nd one and this time was playing it safe. I never filled the food container full any more, maybe half full only. About another year later and it did it again. What the heck?!?! Less food, but definitely something is wrong here. 2 failed units like that? Now I am back to a 3rd one under warranty and I only use it for when I travel. I never store the batteries in the feeder and only put in enough food for the amount of time that I am going to be gone (usually a few days to a week once a month).

So not sure what to tell you about it, but that was my experience. The feeders were never dropped, batteries never got low enough to fail, nothing logically made sense for the failures.

Wow that's really crazy. I've had my primary feeder going for probably 6 years and never ran into anything like this. I have an additional one that's only been running for a month or so (hopefully it doesn't freak out like yours did).
