I got a flame angel a couple weeks ago, and he's just not eating yet. While in the QT tank, I had a couple small rocks with some algae on it. He cleaned them off good. He's in my 32 gal cube now. Never had much hair algae in it. But what I did have is gone. I've tried the club food, spirulina, nori strips, mysis shrimp, some pellet food - and all soaked in Garlic extreme. Doesn't seem to be eating it. Any thoughts? I'm leaving on vacation next week, and am worried that he will make it.

Heck, I even thought about asking if anyone has a small rock with algae on it that they want cleaned!!/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/crazy.gif

goto grocery store and get some oyster or clam on the shell. Very few fish can resist that. Then try to move him to frozen

Maybe he doesn't like the garlic extreme smell/taste. Try feeding without that on it. Mine eats like a horse. He eats seaweed, shrimp, everything in the frozen mix of Rods food, and he does pick at the algae in the tank too, but not nearly as much as some other fish. I'm not sure what he wouldn't eat. I'm thinking yours may be eating the algae off the rocks because he's hungry, and what you're putting on the food just doesn't appeal to him if he's otherwise active and looking good. Good luck!

I would second what Craig said as that is your best options.

Then I know my flame doesn't like the food if I let it sit in garlic for too long.

Also those grazers blocks that I was telling you about are amazing for fish to graze on. I am going to order some if you want to do that with me.

I tried to get oysters or clams this evening at HyVee, but they didn't have any. I got some algae this evening from Bud (from his algae scrubber). I've placed in on a rock and covered the rock with some neting so that it doesn't float away. The crabs have found it and are eating on it, but the flame angel hasn't. I'm not sure he's going to make it. Yesterday evening and today, it kind of looks like he's getting pop-eye. And he has been more lathargic. Until today he was swimming alot. But today he's kind of been hiding under an overhand and just 'resting' there. I'm going to check my water parameters to see if anything is going on there. Not sure what else to do. I'm concerned that if he's gotten the pop-eye because he's stressed, that catching and moving him will stress him further.

Any thoughts anyone???? He's a cute fish and I hate to see him go down hill.

If you were near Cedar Rapids, I could lend you plenty of rock with algae on it. He could pick it clean for me.
Don't worry about the pop eye. Just get him eating, as you obviously already know. The clam idea is a great one. Might take some phone calls to find dome, but do it tomorrow for sure.

My dwarf angels all starting eating ag different times and with different food sources. Now they will take frozen, flake, or pellets. You would think that with three of them that they would clean the rocks a little, but they don't. Thus the reason I could use some rock cleaning.

He's still alive. I haven't seen him eat, so I don't know if he's finding some algae on rocks or not.

I got some algae from Bud (from his algae scrubber). I put it on a rock and then put some netting around it. I haven't seen him eat it, but the crabs like it.

I also got a couple clams and some algae wafers. In both cases, I haven't seen the angel fish eat it, but the crabs smelled it immediately and devoured it. My clowns seemed intereseted in the clam also, but couldn't get to it......

Bud - I've got nori and tried it also - but the angel didn't go near it.

All the foods I've tried with and w/o the garlic.

So Dave - I'd like to get your rock and see if he will eat on it. Are you going to be around this weekend?

I think I would do that Jeanette, I do not know too many fish that resist them!

Thanks Jasmine for the food specimens for the flame. I tried the algae grazer yesterday but so far he hasn't taken to it.

He was looking very stressed - just turning in small circles in the Cube, so I decided to move him back to a QT tank. The move went easy - I don't think he saw it coming. So, I've got Dave's algae rock in the QT with the flame. He seems to have settled down a bit. We will see what happens the next few days....

Thanks everyone for your tips and help!
