My tank was perfect 3 weeks a go , except for the flatworms that hitch in on some calerpa.  SO i treated with flat worm exit . Had to use almost 3 times the dose to kill these things . Ran the carbon through my external filter for days incase of dye off.  Well the dye off was every one of my sps were dead in a matter of days . I lost one hammerhead lps.  My zoos and candy cane and dunkin are ok. Its like i am going through a cycle again  i am getting a diatom bloom and some weird brown fuzzy algae.  not spreading to fast but looks like a cycle. All of my parameters are good. clam is fine to. This stuff really messed up my tank.  Now I have to start over after this cycle ends. I only have a 7 1/2 gallon with a 5 gallon sump. My corals are all tiny frags but they were really growing when this fwe killed them. I was told this stuff is safe well i guess not./DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/angry.gif

Hey Nemesis that's no fun!!! Not quite sure it was the Flatworm Exit that did it but rather the flatworms itself. As they die they release a deadly toxin...when they die in large amounts it's even worse!! Carbon usually isn't enough alone to take care of it...that's why you have to siphon as many as you can before dosing...then plan on doing water changes afterward. I have heard of multiple people (including myself) using high doses like that so i doubt it was that (but would never recommend). Watch your sps to see if they are bleached....or if they peeled and are truly dead. I've seen minute amounts of sps regenerate and grow back....so if you haven't thrown them out yet...DON'T! Hope this helps

+1  It wasn't the medication, but it was the indirect killing of all the flatworms.

Ironically, Dead flatworms are more troublesome than live ones. It's good to have a Six Line Wrasse to help thin out the herd prior to treatment.

+1 to what everone else said. Also make sure to reserch and read everything you can about a product and it's effects before adding it to your tank.

Respectfully, did you read the instructions on the box? If all you did was dose the FWE in your tank, you only did half of what the instructions said to do. You need to actually be removing the flatworms as they are dieing.

I've used FWE at 3x+ dosage several times in SPS dominant tanks and have never had an issue. as others have stated, you really need to be sure to suck or net out as many dead ones as you can during the process followed by carbon.

Sorry for your luck, good thing for you there are plenty of generous people in this club that could help you out with new frags.

I was not complete in my description of my experience. The flat worms were 1/4 the size of normal red flats worms. They were very small an I was having a difficult time getting them out. I could not get as many out as I could . I also did multiple 2 gallon water changes over the next couple of days.

I'm looking at the system size 10 gal of water is very small in the salt world. Any slight change in the perameters can be devastating, in a short time. I personally would not treat a system that small over the recommended dose. Smaller dosing over a period of time with extraction would have been a good action. This is all just my opinion though
