there is no styrofoam sources in your tank is there? I use a small pc to fit over my overflow box as a noise eliminator which I noticed once broke some pcs off and they were circulating around the tank.

Yeah, sounds like micro bubbles. They are either introduced from your skimmer or your HOB filter. How long have you been using that skimmer and has it always create micro bubbles? Did you remove a sponge from it or change anything to make them start?

its an octopus skimmer, brand new about a month old.  being new to this hobby im still trying to get it all figured out, only sponge i took off was the one at the end of my return, it was big, blue, and ugly. As far as how long ive been seeing them, i guess they have always been there, just thought it would settle down by now.

Many of the sponges are there to catch the micro bubbles. I don't have experience with your skimmer so I don't know for sure, but you might want to try putting it back on and see if it improves things.

Do you have the HOB? I just got mine a few weeks ago and it did the micro bubbles for a few days but has stopped now. Did you make sure to push the air tube securely on? Also, that sponge at the end of my return is there to stop bubbles but it can get clogged pretty easy. I lifted mine slightly so its not touching the bottom of the chamber but still hanging past the end of the tube a bit. That prevented mine from overfilling my skimmer. But my point was goign to be, everytime I messed with that sponge I will get micro bubbles for a few hours.
