OK so I have a flow question. I have 2 mp40's and I know most all people put them on the sides of their tanks. What do you guys think about putting them on the back of the tank? What would pros and cons be?

That's what I'm going to do in my tank. I doubt it matters unless you're trying to make a left to right wave.

There is nothing wrong flow wise with putting them on the back of the tank. The issue you could run into with the MP40s is they pump out so much water it could get wild when it hits the front of the tank in that short distance. If you have sand in your tank don't expect it to stay around the front glass on even some lower levels of flow. Barebottom tanks would be fine.
I tried running 2 MP40s halfway up on the back wall of my 250 deep dimension tank. Even with the 3 ft width I couldn't keep the pumps from blowing out the sand unless I turned them way down. I bit the bullet and moved them around the sides so I could crank them up.

So you're saying that 2 MP 40's are going to be a lot of flow for my 90G... /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have 2 in my 120 (4'x2') and I so wanted them on the back but it doesn't work near as well as on the sides. Maybe if your rock work is different than mine you would have better luck. I had dead spots in the middle.

I would say flow wise 2 MP40s is a great choice for a 90. Now getting them in the right position and being able to crank up the flow without blowing away your sandbed is another issue.

I put the MP40's on the back of the tank today and they don't seem to cause any problems.

I have them on my back of the tank now for 2 or 3 days no issue. Now I don't have them cranked up. I been playing around with a added tunze on the side also with it on and off. Really like what I see from the tunze
