Yeah, I'm on a roll today lol. Has anyone tried the food that Hung makes? I'm considering trying it but I was curious if anyone had any comments on it first....

    Hey Jay,

I have never tried his but I make my own quite a bit.

There are 2 different formulas depending on if you have more plant eaters or if you have more meat eaters.

I think the club is going to have some food making meetings in the near future.

Is it cheaper to make your own or do you do it so you know what you are getting?

I have watched a couple videos on it on youtube, I just need to check around and get prices I guess. I'm wondering how hard it will be to find squid and octopuss, at least at a reasonable price.

Here is what I usually do.
Fresh shrimp (can be frozen, make sure it is uncooked & does not have any additives)
Fresh oysters (usually about $7 for a quart at walmart)
Any other fresh seafood they may have. Dont rinse the blood off or skin.
then some frozen Mysid shrimp (they are very high in fish oils, lipids, & omega somehing & beta something that is really good for them)
Then depending on costs I will look for some oyster eggs & frozen brine shrimp.
    cyclopeeze is a must
golden pearls if you can find them reasonably priced
    some phytoplankton
    selcon
    GARLIC
If I can find it reasonable I also buy some fish oil & other basic vitamens from the health store & mix in.
I usually puree it & let it sit for a couple hours for the vitamins & minerals to soak in really good.
Then I usually mix in some prime reef flake food.
I have wanted to grab a salmon steak or fresh tuna but never have.
Then I split it in half.
The first half I bag up in large ziplocks & lay flat so it is less then a half inch thick & freeze.
    Then I take
    Romain lettuce
    carrots
    brocoli
    cucumbers
    spirulina
    spinich
    nori
Blend them up & mix it with the remaining half & put in baggies the same way as the other.
Some people add pure gelatin to make it a better consistancy but I have never tried that

I talked to Chef Jim at Hy-Vee and he said there's a fish market in Waterloo. That was just yesterday, I haven't tried to find it on Google yet. I was asking him about finding fresh/uncooked mackeral and he told me about it. Also, I have a big bottle of liquid fish oil I can donate to our area when we make our fish food later on this month. I couldn't find any plain liquid form, but I have it in liquid softgells. I'll do some reading after work and add anything I think we could use in it. I think we could get some phyto-plan and zoo-plan in the mix, I'll have more ideas later tonight.

Do you just wing the amounts on these or do you have something that I can use as a guide of some sorts? X amount of this x amount of that etc.. Thanks!
And the garlic, do you buy cloves and smash them up or?

Heck no I just throw as much in as I have.

I do buy fresh cloves & grind it up as much as I can & put it in.

lol ok I guess I will wing it and see what happens. So you split it into two batches, about how much do you think each batch weighs or how many of what size ziploc bags does it fill?
