Hello guys I'm planning to set frag tank next month. I'm wondering if you can add other tank, using as q-tank along with frag tank that goes to same sump, thoughts? Keep in mind, I will have other tank (h-tank) in case I need to use medications for sick fish. Your advice will be much appreciated! Thank you!

It sounds to me that what you mean to say instead of quarantine tank is refugium. A refugium is a place in your system where you can put a fish that's getting picked on, or a fish that you want to take out of your display tank, while still having a safe place for it to live until you can do something else with it. A frag tank frequently serves this purpose as well.

I don't see why not as long as it's separate from the main display and not medicated.
I used to have a 30 gallon setup complete with HOB skimmer, live rock, sand, a couple hermits and snails plus a little macro algae. New fish were placed in it for observation for at least a couple weeks. I also had another 20 gallon kept dry if I needed to setup a hospital tank for treatment.
I feel the fish have a better chance if they are not stressed by a bare system.
I always fed the quarantine tank whether there were fish in it or not to keep it biologically strong and ready for use.

It can be done.  We have a 180 display and then have 4 40g that are part of the same system.  The tanks are all run through the same sump.  Too bad you weren't able to make it on Sunday but the next time you get to the Quad Cities let me know and you can take a look at what we have set up.

Aj- I thought about it but wasn't sure its safe to do that way. Thank you. Yet, I have lot to learn! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif Thank you.
John- that's what I was thinking. I thought about having q-tank on top and h-tank under. If fish didn't look too good and need to transfer to h-tank and I can set up value on q-tank drain straight down to h-tank so I can have some sorages value of benefits in the water without worrying about spilling water or etc.

Not trying to point out your error, just trying to help you associate the correct terminology.  When you do searches on the Internet using the correct terminology, you'll have many more resources at your disposal...and *we all* have *a lot* to learn.  This is one of those hobbies where you can *never* know it all.  It's a constant learning process.  :)

AJ- Its all good. It is good to know when I have Q-tank full and I still have plan B by using refugium. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif I read lot of books before I start this hobby. They say many different way and you not really sure where or what you want to start but with the help from GIRS community does help making better decisions. At first I was planning to do fish only till I went to AE store in Davenport and saw all these corals. Its beautiful so I decide to go with community reef. I started with 29 Bio cube then was ready to go on next level. That the reason why I started this hobby is because you never stop learning! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif
