not really, that devalues the fee that people who dont bring a guess pays. Or people in line will just start pairing up so they only have to pay half.

I think someone should find out if there is a family option and if there is then they should get in as a paying family i know if i bought a family membership and then at the door i had to pay extra for my wife I'd be pissed

I will say this! I know I would for sure never get my Wife to come even tag along if she had to pay full price to get in. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/sad.gif

We spend thousands of dollars on our tanks every year but don't want to spend $15 for our wife to go to the shows. That doesn't make sense to me. I have no problem paying $15 for my wife to get in. and if your wife won't come because of the $15 fee that also sounds like a good deal cause she can't complain about being bored or on how much money your spending /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

For some 15 bucks isn't anything more than pocket change, for others it's the difference between staying at the show or leaving. Honestly for me it's makes the whole family membership thing pointless, and i get that many of the newer bod hasn't been around long enough to remember it but the fact remains. If we invite families to local events, pizza parties, Christmas parties etc and we basically feed whole families because there "members" why would this be any different? Like I said before not a big deal to me cause my wife doesn't come to the fests all that often, but if you have 20 couples show up not knowing they have to pay for spouses and even 5 were to leave the event mad over the deal, everyone looses. This should definitely be one of the things worked on next year

So how many raffle tickets does the $15 fee get you vs the $20 membership?

The tab 'Join GIRS' only lists the option for a '$20' membership. No mention is made of a 'Family membership'. So, I don't see how anyone could think they had paid $35 for a family membership. Am I missing something?

If anyone has paid the $30 price for a family membership then the spouse, and children would be included and should get into the fest for free. Since I don't think that's even an option, then it seems pretty clear that spouses would not get into the event for free.
Definitely something to discuss at the next business meeting though.

Constitution of the Greater Iowa Reef Society

Section 3 The Greater Iowa Reef Society shall consist of five (5) classifications of membership. Charter Regular/Family Student Commercial Honorary

    General By-Laws
Bylaws of the Greater Iowa Reef Society

Section 2 Regular/Family members shall consist of those members over eighteen (18) years of age(and immediate family members, including children for Family) that are in good standing. Regular members are eligible to hold office and vote(provided they are over 18 years of age).

Section 8 Dues for Regular and Charter Members will be set at $20. Dues for Family members will be $30. Dues for student members will be $10. Dues for Commercial members will be $40. Commercial members will be provided with a small advertising space on website and newsletters.

So as I understand it, since the club didn't set up things correctly when a past board decided to drop the memberships on families, those families now suffer. Sad to see! I'd just like to throw a thought out, I'd like to make sure that all the spouses sign up for memberships before attending any of the local Christmas parties or other events as they wouldn't actually be "members"

??? Since I've been on the board I don't remember hearing anyone express concern that they weren't allowed to purchase a family membership ????

I agree that this should be discussed and reviewed at the next business meeting.

A previous board lowered the pricing from 35 for a family to 20, why i couldnt tell you, why would anyone raise concern if they were told this was the new rate? Its basically just a lack of information changing hands that has now snowballed into an issue. I'd agree this needs to be looked at next year
