This is soo dumb. I don't care if your a broke college student the money goes for good things and you have known for months so you could save your money. If your wife or family member gets enjoyment out of coming then they should pay. Business are donating things they could sell and make money on just to make this a better event. People should glad and just pay if you want to attend.

I dont know of any event where spouses get in free just because they are a spouse. Ducks unlimited banquets, movies, anything.

This discussion is interesting and frustrating at the same time. Andy and I have done the most work on putting Fall Fest together. We hadn't heard anything about family memberships. We thought we were creating a nice benefit for club members by giving them free admissioin. If we knew it was going to create this much stir, we would never have done it this way.

What about Spring Fest or Fall Fest last year. Pricing was $10 - and members got 10 free raffle tickets. Did members that brought spouses expect (and receive) 10 free tickets for them also?

Dont be, because no matter how good you do, there are always people that complain about something you do before and after each show. It is the nature of people, cant please everyone all the time.

I think it is going to be a great show, and 98% of everyone will be happy. What is that slang saying, Haters be Hating

Kids get in free. That is still a benefit. Fosters growing of the hobby in the future....

I love the comment about spouses getting in free to banquets and movies. I WISH that was the case. LOL

I feel that this event is no different than going to a movie or a boat show or a Rock show, a baseball game.
Everyone has to pay in some way.
I think that $15 is still a fair price, even better have to spouses join for $5 more and get involved in the club.
    Everyone wins.
I plan to have the spouse join.
I feel that I save over $15 on just what I purchase and learn at these events.

Sorry guys Im not complaining just saying I live an hour and a half away and would like her to go so maybe we could go out afterwards. Money isnt the issue with me here. No matter how much money we have most of us know our wives never think its enough. If she only knew how much Ive spent in the last year. The last show I went to in Des Moines she waited outside the whole time and kept calling me every two minutes. She wouldnt care about the raffle tickets. But in her mind she would rather wait in the car. She would never goto meetings and I would never expect her to eat free pizza. But honestly Id think I would spend more money there if I wasnt hurried right?

I'm bringing my brother who has no interest in this hobby. I'm more than happy to pay the $15 it cost for him to get in just for a driving buddy. I hope my wife will be able to go in the future and I would still be okay paying $15 for her to get in. Although I do think it would be nice to have a family membership option that would save me money in the long run.

    What? There is free pizza?

  11. Humm i didnt anticipate this either. should be a spot in your profile to list spouse and that would solve the BF/GF aspect. and the wife would get to participate in the raffle anyways as there married.

definately something to get figured out for future events. or send out membership cards?

    Otherwise see everyonetomorrow afternoon.

I have really been looking forward to going. Sounds like a really good time. Unfortunately, if I have to pay extra for my wife to attend with me it takes away from the money I would have to spend. I always have her and my three kids help pick the new things for our aquarium. It keeps them interested and makes it fun for the whole family. I feel I would be better off spending the money at my local reef store, at least I would be bringing home a new addition to my tank.../DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif

  13. Realistically the 20$ would still go to the club now it will just be for membership instead of raffle tickets.

Thank you for all of your hard work! I will be brining my GF from Des Moines, we can only stay about 1hr (I'm sad about that) because she has to work in the afternoon, but she is willing to travel to IC with me and even show a little interest I will pay $20 with no second thought!

The reason that we dropped that family membership (or at least don't promote it at all) is because it's impossible to manage/enforce. All of our automation tools that make membership quick and easy would not work with a family type membership.

I think everyone can agree that the last thing we need to do is make more work for the people who volunteer their time to the club.

Its a slippery slope - that's for sure. I think the one argument that I've heard that actually makes some sense to me is when the member is driving a distance and the spouse tags along. I understand not wanting them to just sit in the car. Unfortunately I don't see a reasonable way to decide who would qualify and who would not qualify. Spouse / girlfriend-boyfriend / fiance........

Also, when we dropped the family membership, another part of the reason was because we had been giving free admission to spouses and kids (which made it seem a bit pointless).

IMO, we should just let spouses in for free, it's really not that big of a deal.

I disagree. It's very easy to see who qualifies. If you're not married, they are not your spouse.

Not saying that it is difficult to determine who is a spouse, but not sure that that is the equitable line to draw. Why not fiance, significant others, boyfriend or girlfriend?

I don't see why it would be difficult to have another option. Then have the records indicate if they paid $20 or $30 membership.

If they pay $30 instead of $20 then they have a family membership. Spouse is free. Who cares if that person is truly the spouse, as long as its just one other person(Adult) they are bringing into the fest.
