I bought a head of frogspawn at Spring Fest. When I got it home I noticed that the head was almost completely loose from the skeleton. I placed it in an area with low flow, but that didn't help much. This morning the soft polyp head has come completely off the coral skeleton. Anything I can do about that - or is it toast? Although it has separated from the skeleton, it still looks in decent shape.

Ive never dealt with it before, but everyone one else that it happened to said the head was dead. Leave it in the tank though. Ive had euphylia randomly pop back will a bunch of heads and grow out of the dead head.

Frogspawn is very resilient. As Buku stated, even when it appears to have died off you may get some new growth on the skeleton.

I nuked my 30+ head colony trying to get rid of hair algae last year. The heads all died off and I was left with one straggler holding on. Then smaller heads started popping up along the structure and now it is back to almost where it was last year.

If all else fails and it stays dead, I'll hook you up with a head of mine. I happen to know one snapped off last week but it's just chilling with the rest of them.

Well, I'll cross my fingers. I would really love it if I would get growth back on it. Its not your standard green or purple frogspawn, but an orange frogspawn. I liked it because it was different from the other ones I've had.

Thanks James for the offer, but I'm guessing yours is a green or green/purple frogspawn. And I really liked the orange one cause it was different!

Yeah just leave the skeleton in the tank. If anymore growth will come off the skeleton Ive seen growth within 1-2 months. After that i would think of it as dead. My most recent head fell into a plate and got wiped out. I currently have 20+ smaller heads growing out of the skeleton where the head used to be.

Thanks for the suggestion @Buku@Buku .

Actually that reminds me of Dave and his plate coral that he thought was dead. Then a couple months later he had tons of babies on it!
