I have had my 90g up and running for about 6 months now and never had a single scrap of algae until just the last few weeks. I have a bit of green hair algae in the main tank mostly on the rocks closest to the lights. It isnt terrible yet but it is getting worse. About a quarter inch in lenghth now. My fuge has gotten really bad though (see pic). I have an increasing amount of brownish red algae covering the bottom around my mound of chaeto. Not sure why this has popped up all of a sudden. According to my hanna checker my PO is 0. All other paramters are normal. I change my GFO every month when I do 25% water changes regardless of PO level. Only thing I can think of is that I reduced the flow of my MP40's down to 50% a few weeks ago because it seemed like my fish were getting hammered at full power and that may have allowed the recent bloom in the main and fuge.. I have 2 MP40's on either side of the tank. One towards the front and one towards the rear on the side. I run night mode for 10 hours which reduces flow even more. Just threw in another large order cleanup crew to help combat. THinking about increasing flow to full power again, doing water change and adding fresh GFO.

I also run my fuge light for 8 hours opposite my main tank. Wondering if this is too much. I dont want this crap to get worse and overrun my tank. Any thoughts?

Better in the fuge than the main tank. Do you have a cuc in the fuge? What kind of flow do you have down there. I would guess you're collecting excess nutrients and detritus in the sump and its feeding the algae.
Its all pretty common occurrences at this stage in the game anyway. As the tank matures and you get a bigger population of denitrifying bacteria the problem may subside. In the mean time watch the feedings, keep excess detritus vacuumed up maybe change the flow up in the sump to keep the crap suspended and working towards the skimmer.

I just added a cuc to the fuge and it actually looks a lot better even after only a few days. going to do a water change in the next few days and will completely clean out the sump. I will increase flow to the fuge too maybe. Sump flow is pretty decent but there is some crap sitting at the bottom that could go. Thanks a lot for the input. Helps to have some feedback. Much appreciated!

The sand and LR in the fuge are probably helping to create dead spots and holding detritus. Ever think of doing an algae scrubber? Easy to make and all the nasties grow there instead of in the display.

I looked at that originally but opted for the fuge. At the time I didn't really fully understand the algae scrubber concept + I liked the idea of a place where natural food sources could thrive. Do you have a pic of yours?
