So the other day when I was snowed in watching TV, they had an ad on the History channel about Ancestry.com.  Two week free trial.
I tried it out of curiosity & now I am wowed & addicted by it.
So far I have gone back 34 generations & found ancestors that were born in 870.
    Anyone else ever do this?

Yes. On my father's side we go back as far as they have records /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif I'm an ancestor to Old King Cole (yes, there was one), Charlemagne, many medieval kings and queens, people who were beheaded, went on crusades, pilgrims; it is pretty cool! Of course I did all this research way before I had kids or was married and had the time........now it just sits in a big 3 ringed binder, lol. Back when I did the research, it wasn't so much online. But the Mormons were way ahead of the game and already had many family lines online, as its a part of their religion to know your lineage. They were a great resource at the time! Once you reach a certain point in your research, you can usually just hook up to a line that's already been found and researched, thus saving you lots of work /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

No I haven't, but back in the old days before internet geneology reports my uncle was interested in tracing the lineage of our family and hit libraries and state houses all over the country and inquired over sea registries by mail. He left a very detailed biography of each person, and went back some 20 generations. Turns out we're not that German after all......we're Polish (that explains alot actually lol) and a number of our first ancestors here in the US took Native American wives from the Blackfoot Tribe (native to the north west where our family settled 5 generations ago).
