Well I have a little money to spend and was thinking a generator might be a good investment. All I really need is something to run my biocube 29, pumps, LED lighting and a return (basically keep it operating normally). - if I had to make a quick guess,

I'm sure they are nice, but at $1000, a bit out of my price range, especially considering how little I would end up using it.

In an apartment wouldn't you want a UPS rather than a generator? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think there were any generators that could be run indoors.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. This would run outside with a power cable running in through a crack in the window. The reason I mentioned an apartment was because of sound. I don't want it to be incredibly loud as a courtesy to our extremely close neighbors.

Ok only hondas are quiet enough to run in an apartment complex. All others are loud as hell. A ups is a better idea. But if the outage lasts to long your battery goes dead.So hondas are the best best.but you pay for it. Otherwise you can get a cheap one at harbor frieght I think around 200.

Also, a car AC inverter will power quite a bit in a pinch...

I have thought about using an inverter for my truck. The only issue is parking. If the spots near my complex are taken (which they generally are during inclement weather) I am screwed. I guess I will have to take a look at generators. I know I heave seen portable camp generators when I went camping, they weren't Hondas, and they weren't so loud that they were unusable.

I am not real sure how the inverters work can't you take the battery to the tank? Or buy a spare battery for the inverter?

if you are only running 350watts worth of power then an inverter might be best. you could get a deep cycle battery just for your tank, just make sure it is kept outside if it is not sealed. non-sealed batteries give off gasses that can be dangerous
