I've been runining my GFO in a BRS carbon Gfo reactor. I had to put it in a media bag because it would leak out if I didn't. Is there a better way to do this? My phosphates are high and this just temporarily works then phosphates go up.

Ive never had that problem. Yours have all 3 pieces of foam in it? Too much flow?

Only thing I can think of is maybe the foam inserts arent pushed all the way in. Idk how itd go thru the foam.

Theres 3 inserts one stuck to the top and one stuck to the bottom. Does the other one the one that is loose go towards the bottom? The foam seems to bigger porus? spelling? Than the GFO.

I shove the foam into the top. Both pieces snug up there. And one piece at the bottom. I usually run just gfo. But decided to put carbon between the two top foam pieces and gfo in the bottom...nrver had a problem...u dont have the plastic insert upside down somehow do u?

I don't have any foam in there and mine is tumbling just fine without putting anything in the tank almost sounds like you have the flow to high or didnt rinse it good enough?

Sounds like too much flow. GFO shouldn't really tumble aggressively. It should have just enough flow so the GFO is not packed, but slowly churning in the reactor, very little movement on the top layer of GFO. There should be a gap between the top of the GFO and the sponge filter. If there is not you have too much packed in there, or way to much flow pushing the GFO into the sponge.

Here is a video that explains it pretty well

    Was it too much flow?

Is there a big difference between the regular brs and the high capacity?

I think the high capacity is supposed to last something like twice as long.

Its also a little bit harder of a GFO media and supposedly "recharges" better than the regular.
