I bought a glass hole-saw and am hoping to drill 4 holes for 1" bulkheads.  Three holes in 1/2" glass and a forth in another sump/tank.  Will the $12 hole-saw that i have from bulk reef supply outlast these drillings; or should i get a second bit?  Of course i will wet drill them.  Just looking for some experience(s)!  thanks for any help in advance. -andy

I'd say it'll do those four. But it'll take a long time on the last one or even last two holes.

Just don't push down, let the bit do the work. Especially at the end of the cut.

that is nice to know. I have drilled smaller holes into tile before (couple years ago)... but it was only a couple holes.

I think you could get at least 6-8 hole on a new hole saw. I got a few more then that with mine, but I think I was risking it at the end. You will be fine with only 4 holes.

Just make sure that when ever you drill holes in tanks, make sure they are not tempered glass. ( as they will shatter)

there are different grades of glass saws, the GHs rated at very low # of cuts but low prices as well. the more expensive ones can cut 60+ if I remember. I agree with the last hole will be slow.

cut your most visable hole first, sump last just in case it smudges. maybe keep a local reefer that has a second bit be on standby....

now, you are drilling overflows in the back, and not the bottom, correct /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

yup, I think i am going to drill them in the back panel of the tank. Three holes in the tank; similar to the beananimal thread on reefcentral http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344892

Beananimal is one of the few people that you can blindly trust 99% of what he says /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif
