This might be a dumb idea, but I don't really know if it would work or not. So I thought I would see what you all think about it.
I am setting up my stand for a 29 bio cube. I was planning on making the first chamber a fuge, but got a CPR hang-on fuge in trade for some work I did.  I am trying to find a way to get that running, but there isn't enough room to hang it on the back of the tank, and I don't want a overflow to go under the tank.  So my thought was mounting in the canopy part of the stand behind the light. The light would be about 3/4 down on the fuge, and about 6" out.  Kinda hard for me to explain so here is a few pics to show what I am talking about.  And the light I am going to be using is a 20" sunpod.

Also in the second pic in the front top left of the canopy, was were I wanted to mount the AC3. That way it is at eye level, because I am not going to have it connected to a computer right away, and don't want to get in the bottom of the stand to make any changes.  Now I am wondering if there would be to much moisture right there for the AC3?  There is a 6" fan in the top of the canopy blowing the air up and out.

Let me know what you think about them ideas.  I would rather scratch a bad idea now, then try to fix something once it is all together.

Couple things with it being high, is first you will need a good pump to get it up hill, and second if power goes off you will want a shut off because water runs better down hill than uphill like in a normal sump.

I would haft to do some kind of extra plumbing w/ a check valve kinda thing for safely. Good point, haven't thought of that yet.

Yea, that would be a automatic syphon, and it most likely overflow quickly.

Yeah...it would get ugly fast...Matt is right. I wouldn't do that. The only way that you could prevent that (that I can think of) is to put a check valve on one side, and cut the pipe on the other side to take water from the surface instead of the bottom of the fuge. And just generally, check valves are not a good idea to use in your reef system. They fail. Not a matter of if, but when.

If you are going to with this idea, you might as well just setup a sump.

IMO, There's plenty of room for a fuge in the 1st chamber. Works great for me and there is ZERO chance of flooding EVER.

Troy you could do that, you would just have to drill a small hole in each tube to use as a vacuum break.
If it were me I would mount the Ac3 on the out side, side panel so you can easily look and monitor whats happing, and plus it would look cool too!

I agree with both Jeremy and Rick...put your fuge in first chamber, and put the AC3 on the outside. I would just not use the CPR fuge.

OHhhh, I had to look at your other pics to see this is going ABOVE your tank.  That could totally work with a syphon break, just keep the hole clean.
This is the first time I've seen pictures of this build, interesting concept.

The check valves can fail easily. I would deff use the hole drilled for an anti siphon, make sure the pump side is drilled down and not up [IMG]. If you didnt mind the look you could also have the fuge dump right into the display to add more flow. It might be better on the fan in the canopy to have it blow in also to help with salt and water on the motor in the fan. William
