Anyone grow any gracilaria of any kind? Was wondering if I could grow any like we do chaeto in a fuge. Would be neat to be able to feed the tangs with something I grow myself /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif Give them a little variety from their normal nori sheets, formula two, and meaty frozen mix.

I have tried twice and it didn't make it. Randy Reed said more light. I have PC's, he was talking halides. I don't think I am going to put a halide over my fuge anytime soon. ;0)

I have some red gracilaria that grows in my sump along with chaeto. I feed it sparingly to my tangs & foxface so that it lasts and it is doing ok - not nearly as fast a grower as chaeto but has held its own over the past 10 months it has been in there. They also readily eat chaeto.

Hmm, I should give feeding chaeto a try. I thought they wouldn't like it based on what I read. What kind of lighting are you using dave? I too don't really want to hassle with using halides just for growing some macro! LOL

I am using two of these:

And here is some info on someone else using them:

I have yellow, sailfin and blue hippo tangs along with a foxface that readily eat chaeto (along with any other macro put in front of them as near as I can tell!). I agree with you on no halides on the sump - can't afford the heat or the electricity for that!)

That looks like a pretty inexpensive solution. Do you tumble the gracilaria like some people like to do with chaeto?
