    Hey everyone,
Nice to see you guys this afternoon at the meet at the North Liberty Community Center. It's really a great facility, we're going to have a lot of fun there with future meetings, they have a kitchen and all the things we need to have a good time. Not to mention, they have a hell of a water park that's going to be a lot of fun this summer!
Thanks for coming out and joining us everybody, I hope you guys learned some stuff and took something away today. Fish disease is an enormous topic and I wish it wouldn't have been such a lecture, but the questions and feedback were very good, I'm glad that you guys were engaged in the topic and hopefully it made a good case for quarantine!
I look forward to an active discussion of disease conditions on the forums, hopefully we're all much more aware of all the disease conditions that affect our animals, and this will lead to much more thorough exploration and diagnosis.
We could discuss specifics at length, and I encourage you to email me with questions and cases. I'd love to review issues and to get my hands on some postmortem specimens.
Thanks again for everybody who turned out despite the weather and we'll see you all in a couple of months for the tank tour. Don't forget Spring fest is in March, so lets get some discussions going about carpooling to Des Moines!!!
    Later everyone,
    Andy

Thank You Andy, enjoyed my first meeting..

I don't know if you remember your 46 gallon bow, but I bought it from you a few years ago on ebay. Never did set it up, I sold it and held off until this year to set up a saltwater tank.

    Thanks
    Ray

Nice work Andy... Great turnout considering the crappy weather. Was really great to see some new faces at the meeting.

Kudo's to Bob too for his work and for doing introductions.... I think that really helps...

Totally, bob is such a nice and genuine guy! Ray I recalled seeing you before I couldn't remember if it was from petland or what. We buy and sell a lot of things in this hobby so can be tough to put your finger on it sometimes. Too bad you never did that 46 glad to see you finally got ta tank going now.

Thanks Andy for a great talk on diseases and treatment...motivates me to be sure to focus on a good healthy environment for my fish...maybe I'll do a water change this weekend !

And thanks AJ for coordinating the DIY breakout box.

I'm thinking the weather kept some people off the roads, but they missed a good time. It was good to see some familiar faces and great to meet new ones !

    Bob

So were you guys able to finish the project? At the time I left, it looked like you were getting close. How late did you stay?

Thanks to Andy for the great talk on fish diseases and treatment and the need for quarantine and this willingness to lend out his new book HaHa. Thanks Bob for keeping things going. Also AJ for all the work and time spent in putting the DIY brake out box project together (lot of fun and a good tool for us Apex users)

    Good to see every one!!!

Thanks for being there again everybody! I would like to follow up with an exploration of fish diseases at a later point, and maybe to a demonstration of preparing slides and anesthetizing. When you start discussing fish disease conditions you could literally go on for days about discrete conditions and causes, let alone histology, gene probes, and immunoprecipitant assays.

But now that everybody has a contextual baseline, I'd love to discuss and demo specific procedures. Maybe we can arrange a small meet in the future and I can get some sacrificial specimens (I'll take a poll and see what everyone is least offended by lol) I'm thinking I could freeze a whole trout next time I go up to north east Iowa. Salmonids are large, and have a nicely arranged pouch where all their guts are, they aren't teleosts of course, so I might see if my friends at Petland would save any larger cichlids if they have any kick the bucket between now and then.

I'll post a bulletin a month or two down the road here.

The plug that I got for the project turned out to be a royal PITA...so I'm arranging to get different plug/cable combos that should greatly simplify it. Then we are going to reconvene and finish up the project. For those that purchased and are outside of the CR area, I'm going to get the new cable, then send with the different parts.

The project looked like such a practical addition to the reef...assuming of course that you have a controller.

Andy - please post the name / author of the book you referenced. I'd like to also look over your notes...don't know if there's a way, but it would be good to post your notes on the forum. If not, maybe you could just email me a copy... rmboone@yahoo.com
