As the title state's I am checking on how interested someone may be in a large green moray. I am thinking about changing up my saltwater layout in the basement and this would involve taking down my fowlr setup. This would mean my nearly 4' green moray eel would need a new home. Is there anyone with a large tank that can provide a new home?

You can't see much of the PVC pipe in the pic but its 4" diameter and he fills it up!

He's definitely a fat one! Lol as for his tank, that's the dilemma I'm facing. He's in a 7' long 160g right now. I got him when he was about a foot long and I knew he would out grow the tank eventually. Well it's that time now where he is becoming restless. He doesn't try to get out at all but is enjoying rearranging the rock almost every night. I'm at the point where I don't think a 300+ fowlr is in the cards for me, I'd like to expand my filtration setup for my reef tank and add a frag tank. All that requires the space the eel setup uses. ugh the decisions to make!

  8. If no one here has space, would it be worth exploring to see if the Blank Park Zoo, DMPS Central Campus, or other such public entity would be interested?

I just lost my last Moray a few weeks ago. I may be interested but I'd need some time to get a tank set up and my skimmer fixed. I have a monster skimmer that went down and I tried using some little guys and ended up losing most of my eels, but do still have all the rock.

Lemme talk it over with the other half.......

How much are you thinking you want for this guy?

When I was in the Marine Bio program at Central Campus there was a ~5ft Moray in a tank I was managing. Petting an eel is quite the experience - I don't know what the current situation is over there but if you're willing to make a charitable donation that would help educate future reef enthusiasts, I'd suggest this route. :)

Thanks for all the input so far everyone. I have considered going the donation route and that's a great list of places to contact. I also need to contact Bronson to see what his plans are with his new store.
@DangerJ@DangerJ do you know the size tank Central Campus had their large eel in? You're right too about petting a large eel, its amazing how soft/smooth they are!

It was 11 years ago when I was last in there, but if memory serves correct I'd say the eel was in at least a 300g. I think it was in with some rays.

They had several very large tanks in there, there used to be something like a 800g shark tank. The dimensions are funny so I'm not sure of actual volume.
