Hello everyone! I thought a good first post should be introducing us here at the store and giving you a little tour [IMG]
Next, as you continue walking past the plethora of fish tanks, is the "semi-aggressive" freshwater fish section seen in this photo as the left wall of tanks. Also, you can get a tiny glimpse of our coral tanks straight ahead:
Once you're past the "semi-aggressive" fish, its on the the "community" fish seen along the left here. Also, along the right is the "aggressive" AKA cichlid section just out of view:
Once you are out of the tunnel of AWESOMENESS! you will be greeted by tons of different fresh and saltwater decorations and supplies such as these:
    [IMG]  [IMG]
There is also our Biocube and unique tank area nearby:
So, that about sums up our little department tour. Come on over sometime and see it for yourself, pictures can never beat a real life tour [IMG]  [IMG]  [IMG]

Now its your turn! Please, let us know how we are doing! If there is anything you've ever noticed that could be improved, tweaked, whatever! Please tell us /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif Also, we are currently brainstorming a way to spoil all you GIRS members so let us know what you want! Whether it be bi-weekly coupons for different things around the department, special sales, special discounts for GIRS members, etc. Feel free to post anything here, pm this account, or pm kylie d (that's me!).
    Thanks everyone! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Looks good. I'm usually in the area every couple of months and always stop in to Pet's Playhouse on my way through. I'll have to add you to my tour when I swing by.

I know that what all of the stores in the Omaha area do. For some reason, it hasn't caught on with the stores around here. I believe that they do 10%, but you can contact the PetLand in Omaha for more details on what they do.

I'm pretty sure its a 20% discount from what I've been told. Either way, I'll tell Adam and Ron this afternoon when I get to work.

I like the store and try to make a run down there about once a month.

How is the selection of dosing? DO you guys have coral dip and iodine type products besides the regular dosing chemicals?

Yea it's 20%. I stop up there when ever I'm in town. Their setup is very similar to this. The 20% discount does wonders, it convinced me to buy a few corals I wasn't going to otherwise!

The discounts that we have here in Omaha greatly encourage people to pay their dues and join the club. It's an excellent way to gain new members. We have a sign up that advertises the club. I sometimes write directly on a tank with a marker and say "Get this trigger for 205 by joining NMS." People can pay dues and join the club right from the store. We also have member cards with name and expiration date so that we know who really is and is not a club member. We do have people try to say they r a member, when really they are just a regular forum member. Here in Omaha, everyone gets a 10% off discount if they join the stores Petland club membership (which is either free or $10 per year, depends on store dynamics and marketing) and then the club members get another 10% off on top of that. Regular customers that get the petland card give us their info so we can email then coupons, as a form of customer tracking and marketing. It's a great deal all around. Also, the store can try to organize salt, snail, shrimp and crab group buys. I

    Hello everyone!
I am Adam, the manager of the fish and reptile departments at Petland Iowa City.
We're extremely pleased to be a part of this wonderful organization and look forward to doing anything we can to help out the club and it's members.
We will be offering a discount for GIRS members...I don't know exactly how we will go about establishing who is a member and who is not, but at this point if you come in and mention that you are a member you will get your GIRS discount.
The discount at this point will be 10% off all non-sale items in the fish department live or dry. (This does exclude glass aquariums, unfortunately)
If in the future we are able to offer more, we certainly will but we are still working out the logistics so far as discounting is concerned.
In the meantime, I want to let everyone know that we are here, and what we can do for you.
We carry a nice selection of fish and coral in the store all the time but this represents about 20% of what I am able to order for my customers. If ever you are looking for a specific fish, coral, or contraption please do let us know and I will do all that I can to get it for you at the best price I can.
And the deals I can make on special orders for GIRS members will definitely be a perk for you all! We are offered monthly and weekly specials that I can then pass on to you. Especially when large aquarium setups or more elaborate fish and coral are concerned.
So if ever there is anything we fish geeks can do for you, or there's something you're looking for never hesitate to stop in or give us a call. I look forward to meeting you!
Thanks so much for your support!

As far as dosing we carry Kent's Nano Part A and B as well as Seachem Reef Fusion 1 and 2. (Both of which I've used and been happy with.) These are both 2 part-ers used together, but we also carry a full line of specific dosing liquids for all your other elements to be used alone. Not to mention bottled phytoplanton, zooplankton, and amino acid/vitamin supplements of various kinds for your fish and coral.
We also do have a coral disinfectant called Reef Dip made my seachem which I believe is iodine based that can be used both as a preventative (new corals) or as a treatment. (I've used this with dying or receding LPS and SPS and saved what I would have called a lost cause. Definitely something to try if RTN or STN ever peeks out it ugly head!!!)
