Can we get a group buy sub-forum, PRETTY PLEASE?!  I do not see one anywhere right now..........There are two group buy threads going on right now in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum and if you happen to be subscribed to that forum, you get the gazillion and one replies that each thread gets.  I know, I know, I can delete those emails, but I think we could really use a group buy sub-forum, as there always seems to be one going on.  /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif  Easier to find if you're interested in one too.

There's the "Great Deals / Power Buys" forum for the members. Is this not what you're referring to? The only difference is that it is only available to members. Perhaps group buys should fall under this category as usually it is a member that is organizing it, even when it isn't sponsored by the club.

I guess I think of great deals as more of a good sale, not sure what a power buy is exactly(?) is that another term for a group buy?  Maybe group buys should/could be a member perk?  Not sure where it should go, just thought we should have a forum dedicated to group buys.  I've seen other clubs with them and its nice to take a look.  The ones I have seen where just in the general, non-paying member areas..........

I know our web person is very busy and we're looking for help in that area, but any way we can get a group buy forum added?

I will talk to our new IT "guy" at spring fest. I agree that we need one. I am not sure how hard it is, but if it is fairly easy you may see it in a couple weeks or even sooner.

Your poll speaks for itself, so I will try my best to get one added.

Well, my vote goes into the completely disagree category. Why should paying club members be enabling people who don't think the club is worth $20 a year. I'm all for growing the hobby, sharing the knowledge and helping others...but I think we do enough of that on the general forums in the form of advice. Group buys should be something that only members are allowed to participate on. They should be in a members only area. If you want to add a sub category, do it to the Members only Power Buys forum...but I really don't think we need a sub forum. Just my two cents.

AJ, no one said it would be a public or private forum, or if they did I missed it. Wait. I did miss it. A "sub" forum. Well I agree it sould be a members only forum. Like Bud said make it a sub forum of the Great Deals / Power Buys. Every-one that has posted here is a member. So, anyone oppsed to this???

Personally, I dont think it would get used much. Most group buys happen with in a region and not club wide since pick up/delivery could be problematic other wise. And from what I have seen they can be hit or miss even then. My suggestion is to create a group buy sticky in each region ad let it be known that only Club members in good standing can take advantage of them.

I think it should be something members only can take advantage of and I like Mike's idea of having it as a sticky or forum in each region, that makes the most sense to me. You have a group by in your region so you can 1. take advantage of a cheaper rate for more buyers and 2. you want the goods to come to your local area so you can pick items up without much driving. I have seen many other club sites with a group buy forum, not sure who they let in on the group buys, but I don't think its a big deal to have a forum for one. If we decide to have one not under each region, just make it clear in the group buying rules its for members only /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Come to think about it, if I weren't a member, but saw a cool group buy going on but saw I needed to be a member to get in on it, it might just push someone over the edge to join /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/satisfied.gif

Well this comes down to marketing of course. If mass e-mails went out each time a group buy was put together letting everyone know they were going on, that would prompt more people to join in order to take advantage. That being said only members bought filter socks in the most recent group buy I put together for that even after I opened it up to the group.

6 of 1 half a dozen of the other. I think I am leaning towards a sub forum of each region. I like only members can participate, but I also agree may be a very good reason to join. Thoughts from others?

I'm not strongly opinionated as to whether it should be members only or not.  It does make most sense for it to be on a regional basis - although once in a while someone may be interested in a group by in another region.
If the majority feel that it should be members only - then why not just use the forum for Great Deals, Power Buys, etc.....    and then 1)  add to the description of the forum 'Group Buys'; 2) Instruct people to include their regions when posting a new group buy.    Since the beginning of January their have been only 8 posts - so its not like it gets a lot of activity.

I think members only will just cause more people to post group buys in for sale/ trade or in the genral areas where public people can use them. I could be wrong but thats the way i look at it.

From what I've seen, the majority of the people that are actually involved in a group buy, even when I post that I'm placing a BRS order and want to get up to free shipping, are members right now anyways. I guess anyone is free to post such a thing and usually that's how it happens, someone just figures why pay shipping if someone else needs a thing or two and everyone wins.

But for major organized group purchases planned more in advance, this might be the thing that would be better suited for a members-only sub forum. This would be something needing more of an arrangement between the seller/distributor and a larger discount based on a larger volume, not just the standard "free shipping" deal which anyone could do. I hate to say this...but this might be a good type of thing for someone in the membership coordinator position to spearhead, because they are kind of tied together. Advertising the benefits of membership to non-members and having the direct connection with more-than-normal discounts on large group buys?? Having someone assigned the task of swinging good deals might be a huge benefit that would draw more members in.

Also perhaps the reason that there aren't a lot of group buys going on could be that people don't have the $$ to spend. Economy and all.
