so my very first coral in my tank was a GSP. has grown out a lot and honestly i find it pretty cool. Now the last 4 days it has not opened up at all. looks like a big ole purple mat.  Now usually i wouldnt worry too much since i have found coral go through  a time out period from time to time, but this is really weird. any thoughts at all?  I have checked water params and everything seems to be in check.

GSP can do that form time to time - I've had it refuse to come out for a week before.
Sounds like you've checked water quality and everything's fine?  Other corals look okay?  Flow okay?
Moving the colony or having a hermit crab walk all over it can cause this as well.

I've had this happen when a RBTA decided to take a trip around the tank stinging everything in it's path. Just give it a few days and it should pop back.

You can try to target feed with DT's or what ever you use to feed the coral, that might entice it to come out.

How about baby star fish? I've had then take out a big colony of GSP before.

Kinda like taking your car into the dealer or having the appliance repair person stop out - problem solved!
