Hard drive converter cable

    Anyone in Cedar Rapids have a cable to get data off a laptop hard drive?  preferably a USB one, but anything that works I would be happy with!  I don't really feel like paying best buy $50 for one to use once.

    What type of hard drive is it Lee? Most of these can be ordered pretty inexpensively from online retailers like NewEgg.com. If you tell me what kind of hard drive, I can point you in the direction of the right product to get.

    ATA/IDE

    I don't think there is anything wrong with the harddrive, just the part where you plug in the power cord to is broke on the laptop. It's old and prob not worth fixing.

    Hey Lee, thanks for the info on the drive.

    I would go with a hard drive enclosure like this:

    It's about as cheap as you're going to get. I would buy a cheap one like this if I were you because it's for an IDE drive and it's unlikey that you're going to have other IDE drives that you'll want to use it with in the future. If you had a SATA drive you needed to get your data from and you planned to use the enclosure for other drives, I would buy a better built one...something that was aluminum vs. plastic, but it would cost an extra $15 or so.
