Ok its 6:50 in the morning and my heater just died the lights on but its not doing anything. Luckily i have a cheap tetra back up but it can't get the temp over 74.8. The one that died was a the hydor theo 50w , It has lasted me 5 years.  I have a 5 gallon nano and with the hob and canister probubly 7.5 gallons of water in all .I need recommendations on heaters. I have been looking for a small titanium heater with a controller but at this point i need a real reliable one to keep my tank stable .  Any and all suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Ok has anyone ever heard or used a catalina aquatics 50 w titanium heater. I was wondering because i know nothing so far about the heater or controllers. Would a reefkeeper lite control this ?

I may get a lot of crap for posting this, but I've had really good luck with the Marineland stealth heaters. I've only used the higher wattages of them though.   I had a 50w hydor theo once and it was never very accurate.

Hey Lee, you must be part of the 50% of the people that have not had issues with them. A few days back, I posted a link to a thread where a poll was done on RC asking people how many had issues with Stealth heaters. It was just under 50%. That's a crazy high failure rate. I've been using Ebo Jager for a couple of years and love them.

As far as what kind of heater you can use on your controller, well, just about any of them. Just make sure to keep your thermostat on your heater a couple of degrees higher than you want it to heat the water to. For example, I keep my heaters at 79 degrees, but I only want my water heated to 77. My Apex turns th heater on and off and the thermostat takes over once the Apex provides electricity to the heater.

I think i had one of the first ones...that's probably why. I retract my recommendation for the steath heaters. Apparently there is a recall going on with them now too.

    Hey Lee,
I wasn't trying to bust your chops about liking Stealth heaters.  If you've had good luck with them, that's great.  I was just trying to show a bigger picture in light of the really high failure rate that there has been with these particular heaters.  I'm glad for you that you have found yourself in the good 50%.  :)

Ok guys not so sure about this but it seems to be working right and keeping temp within a half a degree . I bought a 5 inch titanium finnex heater with a digital controller on it. Its titanium ,small and has a controller everything i needed it to be , I really wanted a jager but the smallest one I could find was 8.25 ices long way to big for my little tank. Thanks for all the input guys i knew which ones to stay away from thats for sure. Thanks again.
