heater stuck on

    heater stuck on in my quarantine tank temperature was 88 but my six line wrasse is doing good.


    Has made me wonder how hot a tank can get before a fish will die??

    Depends on the fish, some are more hardy than others....I personally like the heaters that won't switch on at all.....

    Brother just had a Jager that was only 8 months old melt his tank a few months back.. I would keep an eye on all heaters.

    I've read that the best practice is to get a really good quality temp monitor and just crank up the heaters to full. Let the controller shut them off when the tank gets to temp. I should do that some time /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

    I would disagree with that, as I'm sure a lot of people would. Why add a failsafe if you're just going to counteract it with something else....


    Yes, let the controller turn the heaters on and off, but only have the heaters set 1 or 2 deg above the controller. If the controller fails then the heaters will hopefully turn themselves off. It would take both the controller and the heaters failing simultaneously to cause you any type of issue.

    That's what I do. Apex is set few degrees outside the heater so for normal operation it's buisness as usual for the heater, but the apex shuts it off at 82 (set 77) and texts me at 75.

    You're right, and now that you mention it, I believe that was also what was recommended in what I read. They say memory is the first thing to go, right before your heater /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif
