New to this site. Dipped my feet into saltwater a year and a half ago.  Spend most of my time on a forum closer to home. I am currently keeping a 75 gal mixed reef, a 54 gal softy tank and a 34 gal macro algae tank.
Anyway, I wanted to drop a line and see if there was anyone on this forum that I might remember.  I grew up in the cedar rapids/mount vernon area.  Is there anyone here by chance, from the Mount Vernon area that graduated in or around 1980?

    Thanks Shaun.
I'd love to make it back there for the MACNA 2011. Dont have anyone here to take care of my tanks. Any way, I'll hang around and check out the sight. Always more to learn and maybe I can contribute a bit now and then.

Welcome to GIRS! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif Where do you live in Washington? I was out in the SEATAC area this summer and loved it. I got to check out a couple stores and Barrier Reef Aquariums was pretty impressive for livestock.

Yeah, Barrier Reef is really nice for livestock. Small place but they get some pretty nice stuff in there quite often. I actually live on the Kitsap Peninsula in a little town called Hansville. Zip code is 98340 in case you want to google earth it. I work in seattle. I have a two hour commute to and from home to work. Its getting old, but I have to pay for my zoanthid addiction. LOL

I'm from the Cedar Rapids, but graduated about 10 years later. I'm not familiar with many people that are in the Mt Vernon area that are in our club. I lived in Lisbon for a few years and went thru Mt Vernon quite a bit...what area of town did you live in?

Wow, you live near the top of the peninsula! I bet it's beautiful out there though. Again, welcome to the site and I hope you can be a regular contributor and make it here for MACNA!

I lived in a neighborhood just outside of Bertram at the intersection of 30 & 13.  My brother lives in Lisbon now. The area out there has changed so much since I left. My sophomore year I worked at the A & W Rootbeer Stand.  Remember it? Probably not...[IMG]
Hope theres no problem with the conversation not being reef related.

It is beautiful out here. Getting home makes the two hour commute to and from work worth it.

Sure...I know where that's at.  Maybe if you ever get back this way someone can show you around to the local pet stores.  The A&W you speak of...was that on the corner of Hwy 30 and Hwy1 in Mt Vernon?  For some reason, I vaguely remember one being there, but I'm not certain.  I would have been 4 at the time...lol  The only A&W drive in that was left had was flooded a few years back and won't be rebuilt.
And no problem starting a conversation not reef related...threads wander a bit...no worries.  Starting a non-reef related comment should be done in the Off Topic forum, but as long as the thread is started in the right place, it's all good.

Boy your up late! I have to leave for work at 5 am. I am off to get my zzzzzz's. Yep 30 & 1 is where it was. Thats too bad about the flood. It really hit home with me too when that happened. I used to work right downtown. My grand parents lived close to there but luckily were not affected. I used to work for KHAK radio. Those were the good ole days. Got to meet all those country stars and free concerts. It was a cool place to work. Any way, I watched the news on my computer at work when that flood hit. It was sad. Couldn't believe how deep it got and how far it extended.
