Hi everyone - so glad to have heard about this place! I heard about it through Andy Long. I'm a 4th year PhD Student in Microbiology at the University of Iowa.
I set up my AP12 back at the end of February. It cycled quickly and I got a clean up crew from reefcleaners.org in May. This has been and will be a very slow process - I'm on a very tight budget.
Here is the current set up:
12g AP (no lid, stock or glass - had a glass one but it broke [IMG] )
    12-13lbs LR
    ~20lbs LS
Sunpod 150W - 8-10 hr MH daily, 12-13hr white LED, 24hr blue LED
    Koralia Nano 240gph
    2 thermometers
Chamber 1 - nothing, possibly going to add a skimmer
Chamber 2 - Chaeto and LR rubble with Coralife 6500K light on top (run for 12hrs during the night, opposite of main viewing area light)
    Chamber 3 - Chemipure
    Chamber 4 - 50W heater, MJ-900
My bulb on the MH is going to need replacing soon, and I'm debating the switch to LEDs. The issue is cost. A DIY dual dimmable kit (I'd like to have dimming options) from RapidLED with all the parts I need is looking like it's going to be ~$240. I am unfortunately a grad student and getting married in 2 months (yay!), so budget is TIGHT. I've looked into Par38 bulbs from RapidLED, OCReef and LEDtric. They seem reasonable at around $100, which is only about 15 more than a MH bulb (from what I've seen). I've seen mixed reviews on the PAR38 bulbs. As long as I get royal blue to white in a 2:1 ratio and a true violet I'm ok. I really want my corals to take off when I get them. I don't want cyan, red or green. I've heard nothing but bad things about them.
I just heard about aquahub.com (Thanks Andy!), so I'm looking at building a cheap ATO in the next month or so. For now, I just top off manually as the tank is here at work so I see it all the time. I've been considering a nano skimmer, and maybe doing an aquaclear70 HOB fuge mod, but for now my in-rear-tank fuge works well. I've been keeping my eye open for used equipment.
Livestock: None yet, but here's the plan
    Corals, etc.:
    GSP
    Zoas (a bunch)
    Shrooms
    Ricordea
    Maybe a toadstool?
Here is my tank currently -

I've been dealing with some nasty, I believe, cyanobacteria. I had to rinse off my koralia with DI water and then remove over half of the chaeto in the back (to be honest it needed to be trimmed).
This was the nano before I cleaned it. There is an extra heater in this picture because I thought I was losing my other heater, but it was an error on my part.

Here was the top of the chaeto before I removed the top half of the chaeto.

Welcome! Looks like you got a good start. I like the rock scaping. Looking forward to seeing it as you add live to the tank. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Welcome to the club. I also like your rock layout, gives a lot of room for corals to grow. As far as the PAR38 bulb goes, I have one and it grows corals very well. I'm looking forward to seeing how your tank comes along.

You should be able to find a 14k 150 watt DE Phoenix for $40 online. Nice color

    Thanks everyone!
Killernights - What Par38 bulb do you have?
Foo - thanks for the heads up. I may go get one of those for now, but I may just bite the bullet and buy a Par38 next month. I'd rather spend a bit more, within my budget, and get something that will last a while.
