I just ran across this site when doing a google search for
biocube 14’s, but when I took a look I knew I had to become a member! I work in
the microbiology lab at Pioneer, so reef keeping seems a natural fit!

I have right now a 75g with an Aussie Tuskfish, Yellow eyed
tang and a Yellow-Head moray. I have some mini maxis in there now under T5
lighting that seem to be doing well. I was stupid and filled it up with tap
water initially…. I have been battling nitrates ever since. I have been doing
the vodka method with success, although I might switch to instant ocean nitrate
reducer – only have to dose once a week and is the same basic principal of giving bacteria a carbon source, used

    extensively

    in industrial water managment. (Of
course in addition to water changes and keeping filters clean)

I recently decided to take the reef plunge and I bought a
biocube 14, it is the new model with LED night lights and expansion for another
LED strip. I put the coralife mini T5 lights on the back for a fuge and got
    some chaeto for it.

I also got liveaquaria nano rock, I must say it is very nice
rock compared to some I have ordered in the past. 16lb to be specific and
waterwelded some of the rocks to make a stable base. I have 15lb live sand I
just added tonight and am anxiously waiting for the cycling to complete. I plan
on running it filterless, but for right now I have some purigen and chemipure
elite in there as I am hoping to save some life on the rocks (I have seen micro
serpent stars, crabs, and coral I can’t identify).

I am already “window shopping” on cleanup crews and corals. I
will stick with softies and maybe one LPS eventually, although coral is a while
    away.

Anyway, great site here, nice to meet you all!

So taking pictures in the aquarium is hard... but here are some, the maxi mini are much nicer in person. I could not get the pics of my eel to upload, I guess he is too mean!
