Hello Iowa Reefers, Just joined the site, I am with a club out of Sioux Falls, but I am frequently in the area for work, thought I might pop in and see what all is going on this way.

Welcome to the site. What kind of tank and setup do you have?

I am currently in CR, working in the Amanas for South Slope Telephone. Acquiring the last couple parts I need to get wet. Only thing I am missing is some Muratic acid (to soak my rock) and a 300 watt heater

Just my two cents on the topic of heaters...

It seems like heaters are always way oversold (they say you need way more wattage than you actually need). I have a 180g with a 55g sump located in my basement using LED lights so everything stays pretty cool down here. Using Dr F&S guidelines of 3-5 watts/gallon I would need about 700 watts or so. I love my Finnex Titanium heater but they would recommend their 800 watt heater for my size of tank. Even in the depths of winter my 300 watt heater doesn't even stay on all that long. Another approach a lot of reefers are taking is going with two undersized heaters... that way if one sticks on it shouldn't be able to do as much damage or if one fails hopefully the other one can keep up enough to prevent the temp from totally crashing.

If I were putting together a 55g reef I'd consider going with two 75w heaters instead of a 300w.

I might eventually do dual heaters, but for now a single heater will have to do. Looking into acid dipping my rock, I got some BRS Pukani. still havent figured it all out just yet. I will not be cooking it, just an acid dip then in the tank to start a cycle
