My name is Jeff ,I'm from a little town in n.c. IA. called Kanawha.I usually just tell people "up near clear lake/Mason city"as everyone seems to have heard of them.My tank{10 gal.} is not set up yet as I can not find any live rock.My lighting is a current 4x 24 watt t-5 ho.As of now i am planing a softy only tank.I did have a 55 gal. reef tank in the very early 80's.I can not belive the changes that have taken place in the hobby. Thanks Jeff
Welcome. Lots of changes yes, results whatever you dream. The wonderfull part of reefkeeping. Plenty of people to help out in here.
Thanks Reddog,That was my frist post ever on the internet and was worried that no one would repley.I never would have dreamed the changes that have takin place. We were still using u/g filters ,poor lighting ,ect..Who would of thought you could cut hard corol up to make frags. It boggles the mind.
Hey Jeff - If you haven't found it yet, you should check out www.nano-reef.com You'll find tons of info on small tanks there! Welcome to GIRS!! Anna
Welcome to GIRS! I know where Kanawha is believe it or not. I have a lot of family from Britt and my best friend is actually married to a girl from Kanawha. Good luck setting up your tank and post lot's of questions. There is a lot of knowledge in this club that can help you get started in the right direction.
Welcome Jeff! I'm glad you're deciding to give a reef tank another try. Things have definitely changed over the past few years by leaps and bounds, and continue to do so. There's a wealth of knowledge in this club and we are all here to help each other out. So please ask questions.
Thanks everyone for the welcome.I accidently down loaded a browser {what ever that is}so I can't go to any other web sites untill my kids get home to show me how,but will check out www nano reef .com then. My goal is ,and always has been ,to support mom & pop type stores and hobbyest. But I'm afraid I may have to order my live rock over the net.I just can not find any around here. Now its cold and snowing so,I guess I'm s.o.l. on that for now also .I did plan on cycling the tank untill March/April [tax time] with rock only ,then start adding the coral. Thanks again
Hey Jeff, Welcome! There are alot of us in waterloo/cedar falls. Unfortunately mom & pop stores are very few & far between in this hobby, especially in the Wloo area. How much rock do you need? I have a bunch of dead Live rock I can hook you up with. Then grab some live sand from someone to seed everything & start cyling. Craig
Thanks xroads but I went ahead and ordered off the net.Yeah,I do feel guilty about it.I will be buying my salt and test kits from a MOM & POP store thou.
