I finally got my new system all plumed and full of water and started running things tonight and well the water height will not stay consistant at all in my skimmer??  its an MRC-MR1 becket skimmer.  I'm runnning it off a dolphin ampmaster 3000.  the pump will do around 3000gph but its running the return to my display too.  it seems like it gets surges and will let alot of water out of the box then wont then it will then it wont.   Kinda like a coralife skimmer!!!!  Help please as i need this up and going ASAP

first off, do you have a constant water level in the chamber with the pump??? If its hooked to your return pump, not likelly. You need to have a constant water height for the skimmer pump to work correctly. If not, the higher the water, the more head pressure which equates to pushing more water into the skimmer, less water equals less head pressure which pushes less water into the skimmer. Does that make sense?

I got it figured out. what it was was the output wasn't submerged in the water just dumping out over top. once i ran it down in the sump and had a little backpressure it leveled out just fine :)
