I bought a 120 (4x2x2) off a member on here recently (cant remember who but wish i did) As you all know I am getting ready to set it up. Well it was dusty and I just cleaned it up. dead center on the back pane of glass, on the inside is a 1-1/2" gouge and a small chip about the size of a #2 pencil head. It is more than a scratch but deosn't look too bad. I am nervous about it. Does anyone have experince with somethng similar? It appears as though a large rock fell and spipped because the gouge isn't constant. I have tried to photograph but that doesn't work well. Thanks.

I had a 90 gallon with a similar chip out of the corner of my tank I slowly added "hose water" and let it stand for a week to see if it would hold... It did I put a silicon sealant on it and it worked for years... I would fill it with fresh water and let it set for a week before mixing any salt..

Thats my 2 cents good luck

I think the issue here is that it is in a center piece of the glass (ie not the side where the strength is all within the silicone). Am I understanding this correctly? Forgive me if not... If I understand it correctly I personally would not use this tank myself. At least not without replacing that pane.

You could take another small piece of glass and silicone it over the chip. That is if it will be hidden by the rock work.

You could talk to a windshield repair company and see if they could do a spot repair on it, just to see what they would say.
That tank should be temped glass but if it didn't shatter by now you may be ok. I would still try to get it spot repaired for peace of mined.
thats my two cents worth. Good luck!

I talked to Nicks dad at pets playhouse and he said fill it up on the patio and leave for a week. if it is fine, then it will be ok. So, I am filling it up.

B-Rad, is the product they use aquarium safe? If so. I will call them out for piece of mind after the "stress" test. Thanks everyone.
