Dry fit and MARK plumbing fittings before gluing.
Unions and more unions, plus some true union ball valves. You can never have too many of them.

$20 investment in your local reef club may be the best investment you make in this hobby.

Always plan for redundancy and worst-case scenarios. Kill the power and turn things back on. Look at ever item and think about what would happen if it failed, moved, etc. Once isnt enough... Constantly consider this.

This reminds me i need to do this again.

Put new fish in a container within the tank to see how others react. I clamp a small aqarium to the back glass of the tank... Works awesome and helped me understand that little tiny four line wrasses are buttholes to mystery wrasses!

Rinse your stainless tools in fresh water after use, otherwise they will rust.

I was going to get a magnetic algae clip, Instead I glued a $2 clip to an old mag float I had lying around. So far so good.

If you have a cell phone with an led flash light on it, they come in handy when you are buying fish from a lfs. Shines alot of light on ich and other bad things lerking on a future pet especially in a not so well lit store tank.

4 inch wide piece of scrap acrylic makes a great algae scraper on a glass tank.

Stick a strainer on your siphon hose or small fish can quickly go down the drain....
