Hi my name is Marty and I am new to this hobby.  After around ten years of fresh water tanks I decided about 6 months ago to start my first SW tank.  I went out and bought a 45 tall that fit the stand I already had and have been battling the algea ever since haha.  I recently started to poke around the interwebs looking for corals and stumbled onto the ReefCental web site and then I was amazed to learn that Iowa actually had a big reef community.
So I figured that I would sign up and introduce myself.  Iv'e already learned a ton about this hobby just by reading the posts on here and am now planning a complete overhaul of my entire system.

Hi Marty! Welcome to the GIRS site. If you're still battling hair algae, you might want to look into an RO/DI water filter and a GFO reactor. Both of them will help with that...as well as an adequately sized clean up crew. It could also be overfeeding or bad bulbs, or something like that, but water filter and GFO are a good place to start.

Welcome! Glad you found us! Can't get much more inland than Iowa, but we have a very active reef club here despite that fact /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif Where are you located? You might want to sign up with one of the regional subgroups on the site so you'll know when the stuff that's more local to you is happening, such as group buys, meetings, etc.

Welcome! You came to the right place, we have many many active and extremely knowledgeable people here. As Phish said above, I would suggest joining the closest region forum, and never be afraid to ask questions, no such thing as a dumb question in this hobby in my opinion : ).
