Hey everyone. My name is Shane and I thought I'd join up and see what GIRS is all about. I've known about this org for a while now, and I'm looking to start making new reefing friends.

A little background info. I've kept SW tanks for about 12 or 13 years now. I started with a 20g that I had for a couple of years before upgrading to a 55g. I'm currently building a 90g system. I'm hoping I have that one up within the next month or so, at which point I'm taking down the 55 and transferring everything over to the 90.

My reef is a softy/LPS mix, but I'm thinking I'm going SPS/LPS with the new system.

I'm pretty active over on TheReefTank.com, and I'll be hanging around in the forums over here to see what it's all about. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.

    -Shane

Ha! I had to get this figured out... I'm still learning this forum's processes I guess.. This was taken in March or April I believe. I had removed my sand and gone bare bottom in December as a result of old tank syndrome. Things turned around pretty quickly and looked great for most of this year. Unfortunately I got another case of GHA during fall while I was traveling for work a lot. A BB tank without a sump needs regular siphoning and I wasn't able to give it the care it needed. That will be fixed with my new system. This is what I have so far, but lot's to do yet...

What's the contaniner on the left going to be used for? Top-off or water changes?

It's a settling tank for detritus. My DT will overflow into the conical settling tank where the detritus will settle out in the bottom. The water then will head to a UV via an overflow through the upper side wall of the cone tank, before heading to the skimmer compartment. The sump is actually turned around now so that the skimmer is on the right, the return on the left. The goal is to have very little or no detritus settle in the DT. I can then do my WC and "siphon" with a turn of a ball valve.

Trying to make life easy, plus I hate poo in my tank. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

And thank you everyone for the warm welcome!! I'm thinking of becoming a member; just still looking around. Are there any events planned other than Spring Fest and the Party this Sunday? I can't make the party, but I'm going to try to hit Spring Fest. Do you have to be a member to go?

To an extent. But if it's able to fuel algae, it's not doing your tank any good.

And I meant I don't like it sitting in my display tank. I'm cool with collecting it where it's easy to clean out when time.

I can't answer where he got his specifically, but most farm stores like Theisens or Blains carry them. If its something they don't stock normally they can usually order it and have it in a couple days. Typically for much better pricing than you can get online if you order it yourself also.

I got my 2 water tanks from Theisens. They just added it to the next order from their distributor so no extra shipping charges. Pretty much anything out of the Ace Roto Mold product line can be ordered from them. They are made right here in Iowa so you can get it pretty quick usually.

I ordered mine online, but like he said, Theisens has them. I didn't know that when I ordered it. I was there about a week after my purchase and saw them.
