Remember those threads on Reefcentral about the remote deep sand bed? Well, I had built one long ago and for some reason did not leave it running. I think I got impatient as it didn't seem to be helping after a month or so. I decided to try it again just for grins, and after two months, my nitrates went from 40 to less than 5 ppm. I tested twice because I didn't believe it. Now, besides the rdsb, I got my skimmer working better, I have an algae scrubber, and I've done weekly water changes of 5 to 10%, so it wasn't just the sand bed, but I am pleased.

I've noticed a new growth spurt lately. I need to get some more fish in the tank or start feeding the corals more and I think that will also help. Very light fish load right now.

Good to hear it worked for you. I have thought about doing one, and still might some day.
