My name is Jeff, and I've kept freshwater planted aquariums for many years.  My wife and I recently moved, and part of her choosing the house was that I get to put a great big reef tank in the new place.
This will be my first saltwater tank, but its been in the planning stages maybe 15 years or so, so I think I should have some luck.  I'm aiming for a 150-250 gallon tank (I'll know exactly after the tax return...) where I hope to keep Zoas, Palys and mushrooms, and maybe some of the easier stonies.
I went to frag fest, and that convinced me to become a member.  Sure, so I can trade frags, but in all those years of research I've found there are a lot of different opinions on how to do things, and with all the marketing and huge piles of reading its still tricky to decide exactly how to set a tank up.  I know there are some folks in GIRS that have some smoking Zoa tanks (Slovan, I'm still drooling over your pictures), and I'm hoping to get some real world experience input from folks here.
I live in Rural Iowa about halfway between Iowa City and the Quad Cities, and I make it to Waterloo often as I have family there, so I may show up randomly lots of places.  I'm pretty easy to spot; I'm 6'6" and have a handlebar mustache.  Feel free to say hi if you spot me at an event.
I'm retired now (Army and then Network Engineering) so I have a lot of time to read and get ready for this tank.  Other then fish, I also scuba dive (was working on dive master when we moved, but have rescue diver, wife has ice diving), play guitar and watch bad Zombie movies.
    See you about!

We like to see pics of your setup as it progresses, plus it will get you some good feedback. Looking forward to meeting you at one of our evens, and good luck with you new saltwater build.
