Hi everybody! I have been told that this is the forum to go to for anything saltwater related by Anemones,Clowns and Corals in Washburn. I am new to saltwater. How new you might ask? I tried taking table salt and a glass of water and raise corals in it.. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/shocked.gif  I' am just kidding!! Anyways I have never had a marine tank but have slowly ventured over to the Dark side. I currently do not have an up and running marine tank but i have a DIY nano tank in the works. Just a couple more months for curing time and it should be ok??? Anyways I will probably have more questions then answers but I am tired of searching other forums for answers to my questions and figured i could put my questions on you. You'll probably see my name a lot around because I am going crazy not knowing what i am doing! Thanks for reading and hope to talk to you guys/girls soon!

So did you make your own acrylic nano? If you did it right, should be cured up and ready to go in a month without issue. Could push that to 2 weeks. The longer you can wait, the better. When you bond acrylic it stresses it, then it takes time for it to calm down, add water too soon and you end up with the joints absorbing more water than the rest of the unstressed acrylic, which leads to different expansion rates and then uh oh.

So what material/solvent did you use?

Yea it was pretty sad to leave Iowa, but I know Craig, Andrew, and John will be great help to you, along with everyone on GIRS! And as Bud said, if you become a member for $20/year there's great things on the site like access to the speakers from previous statewide events, more forums available, and even other benefits like 10% off anything new at AC&C that's not already on sale.

Good luck with the tank and remember to take plenty of pics!

I assumed that waiting 2 months for curing meant it was acrylic! As far as I know, silicone can be water tested at 72 hours, a month would be way overkill. Maybe a week or 2 max to be safe. Post some pics!
