Ok so I'm gonna call this B.A.S. (back alley sellers) frag sale lol... I'm thinking that the 19 of July 10am till 3pm would be a good date for this it will give people time that want to trade or sell for the frags to heal plus it is plenty of time before winter fest that it won't cause any issues. If you would like to participate in this just let me know my number is 5154512795 I'm thinking this will be a fun thing heck we could even grill if y'all would want. There will be plenty of space for anyone to come I only have 3 8 ft tables so if anyone has any tables it would be great if y'all could bring them depending on how many people want to get involved.

The location of this will be at 5278 NE 14th St Des Moines

I like the name, it has quite the ring to it. Nothing personal on my comment I made. The ideas started flying around and I could see it being a problem if vendors had to compete with hobbyists. Someone had suggested to have a greater number off booths for hobbyists.

Vendors compete with hobbiest all the time.... it's kinda like there being a law against garage sales because it will hurt target, Walmart and other retail stores... This is a fun way of bringing people together and even you yourself said you buy from us anyways so guess i still don't understand the logic in your thinking. But everyone has a right to their opinions even if their opinion contradicts the point they are trying to say.

Also where was everyone that is so against this at when they put up the dbtc that's giving away free corals.... let's see a vendor compete with that... beginning to think it's because i came up with this hmmm... sorry that i have great ideas and I'm very blunt but truthfully that's why i have always been a good leader military and civilian world i actually come up with plans and or ideas that will benefit others i also think doing this will bring up the Des Moines area members.... Alittle bird told me we wwon't be hosting a spring fest anymore so this is my plan to keep something here

I don't think there's any relevance to the remarks about issues with competition between hobbyists and commercial vendors. We always have a good number of hobbyist sellers at our Fall and Spring fest anyway so that "competition" is already there. Nothing is ever going to change that. The major vendors know what it takes, and know what to bring to get there piece of the pie from our Fests.
The only thing that I believe it could effect is the general attendance. Now how much is anyone's guess. I think a lot of that has to do with the timing of the events, the further spread apart they are the less effect impact it would have. I would say if its done in July the I believe the effects would be minimal, and mostly limited to a small number of Des Moines locals. Those that don't mind traveling a couple hours for the fest experience will still show up. Those that want to see what the vendors have will still show up. Plus we have a lot of members in the eastern part of the state that are more likely come to a Cedar Rapids fest than traveling all the way to Des Moines for an event.
I will say that doing the exact same thing Armydog proposed has been brought up, I thought it was a good idea when I tossed it out to Craig at Fall Fest last year. It sounds like the beginning of the GIRS frag swap was just that. Some guys getting together in a garage and swapping corals. It just grew from there. It would be great to get that type of activity going again, it just needs to be planned so the impact on the "major fests" is minimized.

As far as Des Moines not hosting Spring Fest anymore that's not entirely accurate. The people that headed up planning Spring Fest in Des Moines are not doing it next year. Now if someone else wants to step up and take charge of planning the event it can certainly be held in Des Moines next spring. Its got nothing to do with location and everything to do with a group stepping up to get it done.

I can get some major vendors here... so I would be willing to do it now I can tell you there are a couple that I will probably cancel out like this certain one that takes up two spots and is not a sponsor yet he is at every fest.... so if I will have the ability to get the vendors ect then yes I will be more then willing to do it... I'll get mindblowingcorals.com, reefkingdom.com and some others that i talk to a lot to come

And as for this particular event well since Des Moines area doesn't seem to have a meeting in July I'll set this up as that? Except any region is more then welcome to come and join us... what are your thoughts? Oh and as for the fest would anyone else and I have full power on what happens there? I have noticed that the speaker aaudience is very minimal and a waste of money and kinda pointless maybe we could have some local speakers... Craig, bud, Joe from coral haven ect....

We're trying something a little different for fall fest. Its going to push sponsorship and hopefully get us some different vendors for the event. But to your question No if you are planning you won't have full reign over which vendors can and can not be there. There will still be some guidelines as to how vendors are picked.

But we will get vendor list correct? Cause i know that like all 3 sponsors that come already have a spot if they want.... gonzo. .. turbo.... and acc so the rest is first come first serve guidelines correct that the planners call correct? So let's say um dirks for example who takes up 2 spots and appears to not be a sponsor doesn't get his money in for the show fast enough he doesn't get a spot at frag fest correct?... see i actually have a spot and the building is large enough to do this at also it would most likely be cheaper then any place that y'all have been choosing. .. so hopefully since there is people wanting to forefront this in Des Moines area then there will be no push from cedar rapids people and waterloo ect... so we will still host it here

I'd say this thread went far enough off topic, lets get it back to discussing the garage sale.
if you want more information relevant to the fest, I would say either reach out to your local trustee. They are really the link between the BOD and the regional members, or get in contact with the BOD directly. board@greateriowareefsociety.org
