How did you convince your significant other?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by xtremeclownfish, Dec 28, 2014.

  1. As we all know, this hobby is not cheap, and many of us like to upgrade to a larger tank or to buy the latest equipment , whether it's the new LED lights, controller or tear up a wall to install a tank. That being said those that have significant others or living still with mom. What did you have to do to convince your spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, roomy or mom. Curious to know if you had to buy them something, or make a promise and how long it took to convince your significant other, and what was the outcome. Please tell ..this should be fun.

I had to start small and work up. She's pretty happy as long as I run things by her and keep things she likes.

Do the chores, tidy up the house, be the first to get up with crying baby... It all adds up

  6. I admit I'm one of those that got my wife involved with my saltwater hobby almost 10 years ago. Took her almost all members homes to buy or trade for a coral or piece of equipment. To a LFS to pickup a fish or two. But it always cost me to line up her pocket with some cash so that she can buy herself something.

But I remember I had posted looking for a big tank, and I wanted to upgrade from a 75G to something bigger. A friend and retired NYPD told me that he knew someone selling a 140G Oceanic with stand and canopy. He described the wood as a cherry wood and that the tank was almost new. He said it was $300 cash for all. And I wanted, like I wanted sex...LOL My wife was there with me looking at the tank and she knew I wanted this tank.

Wife: Beautiful, but we are moving!

Wife: How are you going to MOVE IT?

Wife: We don't have room for it in our apartment?

Wife: Don't you think it' senseless to move it to our apartment in New York, then move it to the New House in the Pocono?

Wife: You will have to rent a truck 2X to get that tank to the house in the Pocono!

Wife: You can Move it by yourself!

Wife: You have a bad back!

Wife: Your not going to setup the tank, until you pull of the rug off from the living room and dining room and put my wood floors first!

Gee, I could not get in a word in, but I waited then I said OK because maybe she change her mine about the wood floors when we move in to the new place.

That being said I ask the owner if I pay him now, and if I could leave it there until we move in 1 weeks I will pickup. Owner and my wife said OK.

Moving day rented a U-Haul went first to pickup the tank and had friends meet me there loaded that heavy sucker. Then moved my apartment in New York.

Guess what when we got to the Pocono, mama made sure the tank was not going up until she got her wood floors...$3500 it set me back to setup a $300 tank..LOL

Actually the 140G Oceanic cost $2699.00 brand new. So I got a great deal! Look at the picture carpets!

That is funny. I just told my wife I would like to take the picture window out, have someone pour footings, and add a small 7 foot by 4 ft addition in the front of the house in order to get a 300 gallon marineland deep dimension tank.

    Not sure how that went?

  14. Everyday I'm on these forums on the forsale post someone getting divorced, and must sell everything. I'm wondering prior was the issue the hobbyist choose the tank and his fish before his or her significant other. Let's here some juicy story. Post pics of what you bought, and what you did to convince her.

Sometimes it easier to ask for forgiveness than ask to buy something. (Sometimes it don't work)[IMG]
