I just bought a 40 breeder setup from waterfowler last night. When putting it on he patio tonight to clean it up we broke the back glass. How hard is this to repair? Sucks it's the drilled pane too!

I would expect it would be cost prohibitive, especially since an entirely new tank can be had for $40 and change at the $1/g sale Petco has a couple times a year.

Yeah that would be ideal but there is no rhyme or reason when they have that sale if I remember they just had one in January. I don't want to wait 4 months to get going on this tank.

I was already in Washburn twice this week.  My wife is due on Thursday so I don't want to travel too far from home if I don't have to.

I posted in the other thread...I also have a 40 breeder with a cracked side panel. The back is drilled, but also has acrylic strips attached. Good if you want to use it for a frag tank...bad if you don't. Anyway, you're welcome to it if you want it.

Took about a half hour to get the old glass off. If I don't meet Shaun tomorrow for another tank I'll try to get a new piece of glass Monday.

How did you get the tirm off? I am in the same position. I picked up the one from AJ so I am doing the same thing you are right now.

    Three words. It's. A. *****!
I actually used a carpet cutting knife. It extended out farther than my utility knife. I just made many many passes under the inside of the trim. On the outside of the trim between the glass and trim I rammed a metal putty knife up all around it. You could hear it working. I didn't have much to lose trying it myself. The corners were the hardest to get off. I set up the tank on it's side so could grab the bottom trim and get some torque pulling the top trim. I had a hard time even getting the cracked glass panel out. I ended up just smashing it with a hammer and it pulled out in pieces.

Talked with my local glass company and they are getting me a 36x16x1/4" for $21. Not too bad if I can get this sealed back up good.

New pane, painted back glass, full tank reseal, and drilled the 3/4" returns. Still need to drill the overflow.

Looking good. I broke my top trim tho. are you going to be putting the bottom trim back on yours? I spoke with my LFS and they said I could run a few layers (10) of duct tape around the top edge of my tank and that should hold it. My tank isn't a DT, it'll be my mangrove grown out tank once I get my lighting for them.

Yeah I have the bottom trim on now as well. I was waiting for the wife to get home to help me flip it over.
