I'm curious as to how long some of our fish can live. What are your oldest fish?
I have a pair of clowns, watchman goby, mandarin, 6 line wrasse and a yellow tang that are all part of the original group of fish I bought a few months after setting up my tank about 3 and a half years ago.
When we got into this Hobby I expected most fish to not last more than a couple years, but when reviewing my fish purchases every fish death I have ever had can be traced to either a system failure when my calcium reactor malfunctioned or predation.
The only fish I've had that may have died of old age was a red fire fish that slowly got skinny and disappeared after about 2 years. Even 5 of my original 11 turbo snails are still alive, hermit crabs and shrimp don't seem to be as lucky.
How long can we expect these animals to live if provided with a good environment?

I had a yellow tang and 2 clowns I purchased in 2003 that went to a friend who recently gave them to another friend.

I've got a tomato clown (wild caught) who was purchased back in 2004 still thriving. 10 years and he doesn't look like he's slowing down one bit. Everything else I have is younger by half his age.

My oldest fish was a FW loach, he lived 12 years. I have a friend that kept FW angels, the oldest pair were around 15 when they died.

I had some that were 5 years until they got washed away in the flood. But yes I agree, once you get them through acclimation for the first month, barring an outside failure, they can live for a very very long time.

There are a pair of clowns in a French aquarium that are going on 36 years

The first fish I added to my tank were a pair of percula clowns. One died in '09 and was replaced. The other still is going strong and rules the tank. So he will be 11 yrs at the beginning of December.

My coral beauty is almost 10 yrs old; Bangai cardinal 8 yrs, and Yellow tang 7 yrs.

Cardinalfish were one species I questioned the possible longevity of. Mine is almost three, good to hear they can go up to 7 so far.

From researching online it looks like angels, tangs and clowns can get well over 20years. Does anybody have any wrasses for 5 plus years?
