   I had email notifications disabled for topics I replied to, but now I am getting them again and can't find the global setting in my user profile/settings that control that.  Is that global option not available anymore and we have to de-select the option when we reply to a topic?

   Go to the top of the page when you get to the topic that is sending you emails, and then click un subscribe, that should fix that.
