What is the best way to deal with humidity in the house during the cold months. My house is 2200 sq. Ft. My sump is in the basement have a dehumidifier and a 8 in exhaust fan in their to. just put glass top on my tank my sump is half covered. Just looking for anymore tips or tricks would be useful. The house is 22 years old. I just ask because my old house was over 100 years old and never had a problem. but in the new house last year the few on the windows done me nuts wipe them off constantly only had a 125 gallon set up open top tho and 75 gallon open top also view I have a 220 gallon with a glass tops on it but the 75 is still open should I close that to. Looking for any info.

Install a HRV in your house, will bring in dry fresh air from outside in winter and take out damp stale air all while recovering the heat from the outgoing air.
Will give you fresh air to breath and also help increase the pH of your tank.
Cost much less to run than a dehumidifier too!

HRV is ok but imo a ductable dehumidifier is better. All a hrv does is exchange outside air with inside air. A ductable dehumidifier does the same thing but also dehumidifies. I was having the same problem so i put in a Aprilaire 1750a ductable dehumidifier. It was around $1200 through discount dehumidifiers.com. Aprilaire just came out with new models so im sure prices went up. I think it's worth it though, I had mold problems before but all is good now. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

    Thanks Jamie!

The HRV is good but doesn't cover the problem with humidity as fmsill stated. We put a HRV in a couple years ago and it's nice. What we have noticed since I upgraded to the 180 is "a lot" more humidity in the house! Bringing air from outside to the inside is nice until it's raining/humid outside :9( So, I'm searching for a way to dehumidify the house right now ;=/
