Just a reminder to always observe new coral purchases for a while and to always dip them. I got a 1 inch frag from a Des Moines store today and kept it in the specimen container a while I dipped it in CoralRx. I didnt notice much until I saw 1 flatworm on the side of the container. It didnt die and kept moving around for 10 minutes. I decided to put the frag in some fresh saltwater and added iodine. I swirled the frag back and forth for a few seconds and dead worms flew out everywhere. I counted 108 before I gave up. I was so simultaneously amazed and disgusted that I forgot to take a picture. The infestation was so bad I left the frag in for several minutes so I am hoping it survives but it appears clean. Ill trust my yellow coris to eat any potential survivors.

I went out and got a bottle of bayer just the other day. Dipping and quarantine are going to be a part of my regimen when adding corals from now on.

As a consolation they were definitely not acro eating worms and probably the acoel brown ones. Still bad but it could be worse.

Bayer will kill pests that may be on the frag. Google bayer coral dip and you'll find all kinds of better information and facts than I can tell you about it. Basically it works very well and is much cheaper than the alternatives marketed to reefers.

This was my first time using it and I went with 10ml per cup. When I was researching I saw all kinds of ratios 10ml seemed to be the middle of the road so I chose that.

Here is a good read on Bayer dip. Have done it the last couple of years and seems to be effective with no issues to coral.

Bayer insecticide as a coral dip

I have used Bayer for the last couple years. I find it less harsh on corals than revive or coral rx. I do use iodine or lugols dip on LPS after fragging but new corals get dipped in Bayer never any issues and most have poop extenson right after putting in my tank.

As far as how much just add water in a container enough to submerge coral and dump in Bayer until it's cloudy enough you can't see any thing looks like milk and dip 5-10 minutes. Rinse frag very well with fresh salt water an DC good to go.

I should add, when I did measure it was 10 ml Bayer to 1 cup salt water. 10 m I nite dip. I have forgot frags in d I p for 45 minutes with no problems.
If you can take frag off plug then dip and remount. To make sure no critters in glue or under coral. And swish around in the dip sometimes critters or eggs are protected by the corals slime and survive the dip.
