I just ripped out over half of the coral in my tank and I love it.   My tank was so overgrown that I couldn't even clean the glass.   Corals were growing into each other and shading each other to the point where they were dying and big parts of my tank looked dark.  I also couldn't deal with problems (Like purple mushroom/aiptasia).
It was hard to do, but once I got started, I went a lot further than I planned to.     Once I started to see portions of my tank as a "blank canvas" again, It really renewed my interest in the tank.
I don't think I'm done yet.   I think I'm going to remove a bunch of the rock. and move it to my sump or refugium.   I want my display tank to be much more open and I want the fish to have lots of room to swim.
    Love it!!!

Yep, it turns out that I'm gonna have some frags to sell at Spring Fest afterall... I just noticed that my name is already on the floor plan, so I guess it was meant to be...

I don't really have before pics because I couldn't clean about half the glass.

Nice job, JB! It's nice to be able to hit the "Reset" button once in awhile to have a new start.

I'm gonna finish getting the glass cleaned off tonight (it's been a LONG time, so it's gonna be a bit of work) but I'll get pictures posted when I'm done...

Yes, I should have some nice frags available. Nothing to awesome/exotic, but they will be very large for the price.

Nice man! I totally know how you feel, there are a few colonies that I would like to get rid of one of these days, but I'm going to wait for my next tank (300-400 gallons). I'm about two years out on that project though! lol

You could always store those corals in my tank Andy... /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Ok, here's a photo of the tank a while before.   This was taken the last time I really liked my tank a lot when IMO it was at it's pinnacle.
Since then, the the purple, red and green cap had all grown so big that they had encrusted on the glass.   The green slimer was so big that it was encrusting on the tank and had grown up right to the waterline.   Many of the other colonys had grown up almost to the water line as well.
It was virtually impossible to clean the glass, and the corals had grown into eachother so much that there was dead coral skeletons everywhere.
You can also see a couple of purple mushroom colonies on the bottom before they got out of control.

Here's the tank after the "culling" (sorry, it's a crappy phone camera shot).     It doesn't look nearly as nice as it did above, but it looks a lot better than it did with the corals all over the front glass...

It's still not as bare as I would like.   I don't plan on putting
anything new into it until I deal with the mushrooms and maybe
re-arrange the rock and possible get rid of a bunch of it.    I may even buy some of those sweet pre-made rock
    formations at MACNA this year.

Holy cow! From the looks of it you should have just gotten a much larger tank.

I have been "monti cap" free for two years and loving it! IMO, they are too easy to grow and in turn, they destroy a nicely aquascaped tank.

Jeremy: I can tell you this. If I had to do it over again I'd never buy a 125 again... WAY to narrow front to back. I'd either get a 120 or a 180 for that added depth.

Sone: I'm probably going to do the same thing. The red cap in the center of the tank will probably be not be there for long.

What an awesome looking "pinnacle" JB!![IMG]  It was a sight to behold I'm sure!  The "after" tank still looks nice[IMG]  I hope you get the 'shroom problem under control.  I'm sure with time, the tank will look awesome once again[IMG]  I wish you hadn't mentioned the pre-made rock formations at MACNA...now you have me thinking[IMG][IMG]
