/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/w00t.gif He's got some in his mouth!!!! Could it be the 3 babies? New ones? Oh no, now what? He's not eating either as I just fed them! The tank is in the basement so I can't watch it very close and I'll be gone most of the weekend!

They rarely re enter the fathers mouth.. I would suspect he's either still brooding and those few were very early (less likely) or they were from the other male, or a previous batch he had already released. As for these babies in his mouth.. if you going to be gone for most of the weekend chalk these up to a loss should the hatch this weekend. If they are still in his mouth then give them a go when you get back home! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif I suspect they are new ones though! Again, congrats are in order! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif

I can set up the 20L really quickly! If he's still brooding, will these go down into the sump like the other 3 did? If not, is there anything I can do? I do have some chaeto I could throw in the tank if it might provide some cover them if/when they are released. Sorry Jasmine but I'm short on time for researching or I would :9( I never gave it thought when I bought those 5 that they might breed ...dah!

lol. No problem, research is something that certainly takes time but if this is something that you would like to pursue I'm sure we can help guide you along. Myself and any other banggai breeders here. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif You can certainly set up a tank if you would like, personally there are a couple of ways I have done this before. The easiest and quickest way if I'm short on time is a small tank with a layer of egg crate laid inside, you can raise it off the bottom by an inch or two with some pvc scraps and then when the babies are born they can take refuge under there if you male is large enough to not fit through the bars... (I've had some larger males still squeeze through though!). That's a super fast way to catch them if you know dad will be releasing soon and you'll not be present. Otherwise, a common hook over the rim of the tank baby net is great for keeping the babies in the main tanks water (higher chance of survivability), it just becomes a tad problematic when feeding (as most brine can escape right through those holes).

Are you sure the male is still holding a previous clutch? or do you think this could be a younger freshly transferred batch? If it's the current (from the same as the 3 babies) then he should release them very soon) I'd go with jerry rigging a system for him to release . Most often if you try and catch him it will automatically strip him. He'll typically spit them out. you could do that and just take the babies into a safe set up.

IF they still have yolk sacs don't worry about feeding them right off the bat, but by the next day or the first day without the sac offer newly hatched baby brine.

I am sure that he has some in his mouth but I don't know how long he has had them. I don't even know if it is the same male that had the 3 babies! As I said, I hadn't given any of this a thought so I don't know if I have just 1 or, maybe more males :-/ I look at my fish for signs of injury, disease and to see whether they are eating or not but that's it.

I'll look to see what I have that I might be able to use for keeping them in, in the original tank. I do not have newly hatched baby brine...never done that! I'll have to look but I don't think I have any cyclopeeze either :9( I usually do but forgot to buy it the last time I bought food at Seascape's. All I have is the cub food, baby and large mysis(frozen) and brine (frozen), some flake and Nori...and coral food. I'm definitely not wanting to start a breeding operation!! However, I am pro-life when it comes to fish, inverts and all critters! lol All I can do is my best and I hope it's good enough!

/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif That's all we can ask from ya, Terri! I think it's awesome you have banggai's, and even cooler they are spawning for you. I'd say you shouldn't fret over it, but if you can set something up, you could give it a shot. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif Worst case scenario... you know I'd always buy those guys off ya. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif lol.

No seriously... see what you have around and make do with that... breeding and rearing the young is incredibly awesome and I think a very rewarding experience for many reef keepers. Hatching brine out is simple enough... but if you wanted to try and do the baby frozen mysis they may go for that... the only problem is getting it down small enough for them.

Let us know if you figure out if it's the same male or not!! This is fun, I'm happy for you!
