   So the one thing I was really planning to do this weekend was set up a sump for the tank. I don't like the way my skimmer is hanging with my canopy and I'm hoping ditching the Fluval 306 will help my nitrates (although it's brand new and I don't think it's the problem).
   
   Should I still do this?

   I really don't think it is going to hurt anything by any means. All my tanks have lived on deep sand bed with a refugium. I have never ran any thing else but that and a skimmer. just gotta keep a eye on it. You seem pretty into the hobbie so i don't see this as a problem.
