Hello all. Dory has Ich...... Is it better to do fresh water dipping or treat with ich-x of something else. I have a 45 gallon quarantine tank fully cycled with bare bottom and a little bit of live rock. Thanks for any advice. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif

Hypo salinity, tank transfer or copper. Copper is easiest and less time consuming for aquarist, possibly hard on fish. Copper also kills other parisites that would survive hypo or tank transfer.

Do research as copper can kill some species of fish...

Ich x is a gimmick as far as the reefing community is concerned. (Generally speaking).

I just went threw the same thing I tried treating with ick attack for 3 weeks and it did nothing for my tank after I lost my powder blue I tore my tank apart and put my fish in quarantine and they have been in their for 5 weeks and all have 3 more to go. I am treating with copper. Save your money and buy copper or due hypo solinatie. I would've saved a couple hundred of dollars between ick attack and the fish I lost.

I tried ick attack too had no luck so I moved my remaining fish in hospital tank, tried lifeguard by instant ocean three days later lost all my fish[IMG] after all my reading up on ick that the parasite can be in the tank up to 72 days before you can say it is truly gone[IMG] is this correct question 1,

Question 2 what other stuff actually worked ..... I know copper base but what type and where can you get this? I know petco went all green so copper is not sold there anymore.

This is my first post been working on my 75 gal tank since feb and it seems like my only success is a Duncan I have and Copepods which I think my next investment around Xmas is a mandrin

Seems copper is going to be the way to go. Thanks for all the responses. I'll get some coming. Thanks again try some zoas and Kenya trees are easy to grow and low maintenance. Leathers are also pretty easy I'm find finding out. I as well got in back in feb. Bol

In CR you can get copper at pets playhouse.

If your having trouble with getting a good hand on husbandry try two books available for the kindle app.
'Saltwater fish as pets' and 'the new reef aquarium'

If anything says its safe on corals and invertebrates then no, it is not copper.
Copper WILL kill parisites coral and invertebrates and some fish (consult online resources for more info.)
Dig into some of that reading I suggested. Small investment for good knowledge .

I did that that where I got the lifeguard by instant ocean , took all my fish out well what was left and put them into the spare 20 gal tank I half dose because I read it online and still lost all the fish /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/sad.gif so now I am just doing the 72 day wait to kill off the ick and just buying coral

With all this being said I noticed the Ich about 3 spot and immediately took her out and tried a API brand super ich cure and It cleared up. when a couple days later it came back 10 times over. No other fish has showed any signs or spots. Do I need to treat my larger system or fish? Thanks

Is it fish only or has inverts in it copper kills invert and as this is going the only thing that works, ick won't effect inverts but As I read takes 72 days to cycle and die off in the system
