I noticed my Coral Beauty had white dots aka ich. I was able to catch him and get him in a hospital tank treated with Rid Ich.
Any suggestion for treating the display tank? I don't have coral it's a Fowlr tank with a anemone, snails and a sand sifter star.
    Thank you

Just wait and watch at this point. Alternatively you can catch all the fish and we them for 12 weeks or so.

Sorry Adam you'll have to ignore some people on here. Every situation is different. I had a similar problem. I couldn't catch all my fish tho. Have you made any big changes to your tank or added any new fish? I had a few fish die but I basically caught the new fish I added and it got better. My other fish were stressed out from the pair of clowns I added I think. Xroads why not just shut up and ignore his post instead of saying something smartass? I rarely even check this site anymore because of all negativey that's been on here.

You are right, I am sorry.

Just getting tired of seeing the same exact question week after week after week after week after week after week after week.

No one seems to know how to do research for themselves anymore.

No big deal. I know it happens but I really think every situation is a little different. But I'm not as experienced as you so I could be wrong. Just know I had a sudden outbreak when I added a pair of clowns with my other clowns. Went away as soon as I got them out...just my 2cents.

I did do some research and read some very helpful information. It doesn't hurt to ask fellow reefers if they have tried something like rid ich or Probiotic marine formula for treating ich.
Thanks for your input though which was nothing.

The most frustrating part is time after time, the same subject is hashed out.

Even more frustrating is when I go out of my way to host a chat on ich, treatment, etc on a Sunday night, and only have 5 people show up. Then there are 5 new threads within a few weeks asking the same questions I went over.

Well I got the fish that has ich out now I just wait and see if any of my other fish show any signs. I would have attended a ich chat if one new about it. Thank you I'll keep an eye out for more discussions on ich.

OK here is a five minute summary.

Ich is a parasite with roughly a 30 day live cycle. It can be shorter or longer.

The problem you have is that even though your other fish are not showing any signs of ich, they are probably still carrying the parasite. Their immune system is probably strong enough that they are keeping ich at bay, but they probably still have it.

Now if you get the angel treated and put him right back in the tank, more then likely it will get it again. There are several species of fish that are very succeptible to ich. Angels, tangs, clowns, puffers, etc. Your wrasses, many gobies, dragonets are good at resisting the parasite.

What you really should do is catch all the fish, and treat them with the tank to tank method for a minimum of two weeks, and let your tank be fishless for 4 weeks, preferably 6.

I was thinking about treating the tank and fish with the following:
Full-spectrum disease prevention formula for marine aquariums
    * Safe, copper free way to protect aquarium fish from disease
    * Reef-safe probiotic formula protects against ich, velvet, & vibrio
Billions of "protector" bacteria stop pathogen activity to help prevent loss of prized aquarium fish. Tropical Science Probiotic Marine Formula is a full-spectrum disease prevention formula that contains billions of probiotic bacteria selected to overwhelm harmful, disease-causing pathogens. Reef-safe formula contains no harmful chemicals, pesticides or copper.
Tropical Science Probiotic Marine Formula is effective against marine Ich, closed fins, velvet, body fungus, hole-in-the-head, and vibrio. Completely safe for all fish, corals, and aquatic plants. For use with saltwater marine aquariums. 16 oz. treats 1,900 gallons.
    Any thoughts

That stuff along with rid ich is snake oil.

Garlic will help boost a fishes immune system so it can fight off disseases & parasites. But it, along with medications like this will not kill ich.

I guess I'll just watch all my fish closely from now on and if I see it on any of them then I will tear the tank apart and catch all my fish. Thanks again for the advice

Xroads. Why not document the chat and sticky it. I wrote up one of the better coral care guides with regards to treatment. And it's now burried. It should be a sticky. There is no reason that we as a community should not be providing open resources in the form of stickies along with active forum posts. Each tank is different.and I certain don't that my 90 line I treat me 75 or my 40. Bottom line is we should put our best feet forward to help each other out. Yeah its the same I do over and over. But that's how you get really good at this hobby is rehashing things and learning. The best person to understand an issue is usually the one who can explain it and teach it the best as well.

We do have a blog section that is seldom used that some of this information could be written up and saved in. The only problem with that is it doesn't show up when users do a search, but it's easy enough to point them to a specific Blog article when they do ask the question.

Stickies are an option, but with the way this forum is divided, or rather lack of divisions with most everything categorized as General(Hobby related) If we sticky all the good write ups that people have done we would end up with a page of stickies. Not ideal either.

Right now I don't see a real good option on the best way to do things, but it may be something we can work to better categorize and store that type of information in the future.
